Jo Malone London

You guys have most likely heard about Jo Malone London…the company is one of those cult beauty (and home) favorites and we were so excited to visit their location here in Phoenix for the first time the other day. We’ve never been ones for big Valentine’s Day celebrations or gifts (last year we got our baking on!) and with one of our goals for the new year being to experience more together, an afternoon at the Jo Malone London Biltmore Fashion Park boutique was perfect. Now, you may think that sounds silly, because it’s pretty obvious we do spend a lot of our time together, but towards the end of the holiday season we realized just how little time we devote to trying new things together for date nights, weekend outings, or even just a different restaurant. Hey, we all fall into our routines, right? So we decided that it would be fun to each pick one new thing to do every month together. A trip to the Jo Malone London boutique, complete with hand massages and learning about their fragrances felt like the ultimate indulgence for a pre-Valentine’s Day outing together. READ MORE

Our Bedroom with Parachute Home

Our master bedroom has come a long way since we first moved into our house back in November.  It is a very modest, cottage-like space that we didn’t know we were looking for when we first started our house hunt almost a year ago.  Most modern master bedrooms are MASSIVE and have tons of closet space, and seating areas and when we moved to Arizona we thought “yeah, we’ll take one of those!”, but man, when we first saw this house in the thick of our house hunt, we felt something special in the old charm of a very practical space.  This Tudor has seen a thing or two since being built in 1930 and we are letting her do the talkin’.  In our last apartment we made a conscious decision to make our bedroom a room for sleeping not an extension of our office or living room and we brought that theme over to our house.  It isn’t a room with a tv, or laptops, or anything that would distract us from feeling rested.  In our first apartment, putting a tv in our bedroom felt like a luxury.  We loved curling up in bed and watching movies until we felt tired enough to fall asleep.  It sounds great, and it probably was for a while there, but it definitely kept us from the rest we really needed.  Distractions are all around us, and we work in a field that is constantly swallowed up with technology, so we felt that if there was one room in our house that was just for us it would be the bedroom.

Valentine’s Day Gift Guide 2017

How sweet is this old photograph of Rob’s grandparents? It’s from their dating days back in Cuba. The joy on their faces is enough to make even a stranger feel love and when we asked his grandpa to send over a few old photos (to have in our home), this one immediately brought a smile to our faces. It’s photos like these that remind us why we love documenting everything so much. It’s so special to have these memories to look back on and share years down the road. Can’t wait to have this framed, along with a few others. 🙂

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we thought we’d share a few fun gift ideas that would be perfect for any guy or gal in your life. 🙂

Ruffles + Print

It felt like we were getting a dose of east coast weather for a few days there and this coat, has become my go to for the chillier evenings here in Phoenix. It’s such a classic shape, which I feel like Sézane is quickly becoming known for. I paired it with one of their printed blouses, a tight ballerina-esque bun, and some comfy heelsREAD MORE

Brands We Love: Loloi Rugs

A rug can really pull a room together and define it’s style. It’s like the third element to an outfit, or the cherry on an ice cream sundae. It just completes a space. We have most of the big furniture pieces in our dining room and living room, so now comes the fun part: textiles! Pillows, rugs, accents…we love it! We tend to lean more on the neutral side when it comes to rugs; it feels timeless and allows for an easy refresh with other accents in the room if you feel like mixing things up a bit. READ MORE

Weekend Links: 11

It’s been a while since we shared our favorite links from around the internet.  The holiday season and moving into the new house kind of kept us from our typical browsing sessions, but it’s good to be back at it.  We’ve definitely been leaning towards more home design and renovation links, so our apologies for being a bit heavy on it, but it’s pretty much consuming our days lately.  We are really excited to see the place coming together and we’re happy to share the whole process on here.  Thank you guys for all the comments and feedback as we make our way from room to room and make this house our own.  Hope you all have a great weekend!

1 – This song has been echoing through our walls all day lately and we were lucky enough to have caught them in Phoenix the other day. So good!

2 – All the lighting options over at Schoolhouse Electric have gotten us so excited to spruce up our home.

3 – Our Shop section has been updated with some of our current favorites for him, her, home and beauty.  Check it out!

4 – Emily Henderson’s kitchen renovation is absolutely stunning and we’re hoping our future kitchen reno looks half as good.

5 – We saw this movie on Monday night and it definitely opened up a big conversation about growing up and the people who had an impact on us.

6 – One of everything from this new arrivals section, please!

7 – Nothing makes a new house feel more like home than adding some framed artwork to your walls.

8 – The Citizenry spotted 2017’s Top Decor Trends and they have our full approval!

9 – This home is everything.  We’re so inspired by this clean, Scandinavian style.

10 – If you’re looking for a new blogger to follow, our dear friend Olivia is doing amazing work over at Livvy Land.

Lately we find ourselves browsing the web for some interior design inspiration at night, bookmarking different tile companies, vintage shops, and etsy finds. It’s something we enjoy doing when we have a little down time. We often think about who the original owners of this house were and what the street looked like. While watching Miracle on 34th Street on Christmas morning, we had a good chuckle with each other…our house was built 17 years before that movie was made. Just a little crazy. 😉 We love it though. The idea of so many families here, parties, and love…hopefully. Who knows?! There can be some crazy stories about this place too for all we know, but the idea of making this house our own, a safe haven, a comforting little place for us to retreat to after a long day, makes us so happy. A Neutral Fabric Sofa

Loloi rug | Osborn shoes | Vintage portrait art

After throwing around a few ideas for the living room and lusting over some of these pretty neutral living rooms, we think we’re going to take the plunge with a neutral fabric sofa. We are still holding on to our brown leather one from West Elm (I love that baby too much to sell it), and are thinking of using it in a studio space. For now we just want to mix things up (for us), with a black, gray, and white color palette. When we look at our current leather sofa, all we see is boho, which is pretty silly because it can totally be styled multiple ways, but we’re thinking we need a fresh start in this house. Clean and simple. Here’s a round up of a few favorites we’ve found:

The Current State of Our Home + Living Room Inspiration

We’ve been buried in home decor books, pinning to our home boards, moving furniture around daily and trying to give this sweet old lady of a house the best layout we can give her.  It’s been a month and a half since we moved in and we are slowly figuring things out.  When we moved in the night before Thanksgiving, we knew it would be full holiday mode for a while before we even got to the “normal” home style, so when we took down all the Christmas decorations a few days ago (that wreath was the last to go — it still smelled so good!), it was the first time since we moved in that we got to take a really good look at our Tudor.  Our sofa has been moved to three different places since we moved in, and we’re thinking the third time was a charm.  Our living room is a narrow rectangular shape, so we are trying to create an intimate seating area that allows for conversation without having to yell across the room.  Bigger isn’t always better, and we found out quickly that we’d rather have a functional space than a space that just holds a lot of our things.

Year in Review: 2016

Woah! What a crazy year 2016 was!  I’m sure we say that every year, but 2016 was filled with so many ups and downs, along with quite a few tests. So much was jammed packed into the last twelve months and if at the beginning of the year you told us we would do any of the things we did, particularly buy a house, we most likely would have let out a big chuckle and smile politely at you. 2016 has taught us to have faith in ourselves, trust our instincts, not be afraid to work hard and take risks, dance a little crazy even if you have just one go-to dance move, sing that ridiculous song at karaoke, open up to friends more, share more with each other, surround ourselves with positivity, and just welcome in friendships and love.

Last year on New Year’s Day we made personal lists of goals for the new year. We never really make resolutions…it was more of a list of things to challenge ourselves with, surprise trips to see our families, to have a certain amount of money saved for a rainy day, dream trips…things like that. It was really interesting to open them up yesterday morning and see what was important to us and on our minds just a year ago. We read the lists off to each other, taking turns, going item by item. Some things made us laugh pretty hard, others made us nostalgic, and some just inspired us to push harder in 2017.

Looking back, here are a few of our favorite moments…

In 2016, we…

…traveled to Austin for SXSW and met our good friends Vincent and Denny.
bought a house!!! It took some time and a lot of ups and downs, but we are so happy to call this little tudor our home!!
…hit the seas for our first cruise together to the Carribean.
…celebrated 12 years together and 3 years of marriage! Woah!
…experienced a crazy blizzard with family back in New York.
…worked on a fun apartment tour with the Domino crew and were featured in their new book!
…took a mini road trip to Palm Springs with some friends and stayed at an awesome dome airbnb.
…welcomed Henry into our family! That little munchkin has brought so much joy to our lives.
…explored the Iris Van Herpen exhibit in Grand Rapids.
…had family visit from the east coast!
…continued our pumpkin picking and pumpkin carving tradition with friends and the pups!
…spent some time on the Oregon Coast with the Bridge & Burn crew and a few other amazing folks! See our Portland travel video here.
…did our best mime impressions in matching body suits. Hah!
visited the Joshua Tree Casita with long time IG friends, Tim and Merrill. Love them!
…spent an afternoon at Mount Lemmon with Ben Sasso and shot some fun, windy photos.
…explored Seattle after wanting to visit for SO long! We were lucky enough to spend our time there with a few friends (Vincent and Cheyanne), who were pretty much the best tour guides and travel buddies we could have asked for.
…hosted a fun trunk show with Coach.
…started a YouTube channel. We’re looking forward to sharing more videos on here, so be sure to subscribe! 🙂
…embarked on a Meditterrean Cruise and visited Italy, France, and Spain! It was a trip of a lifetime and we couldn’t have been more grateful to have explored those places together and meet some incredible people! Hope we can visit again real soon!

Thank you so much for following along and sharing in this crazy journey…it really means a lot to us! Can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store for us!
