My Growing Obsession with Culottes

Spring and Summer Fashion - New Darlings Style Blog - 1 Pair of Pants 3 WaysCulottes are definitely not the new kid on the block, but for some reason I can’t get enough of them lately. Maybe it’s because they’re so versatile or maybe it’s because they’re the perfect alternative for when you don’t want to wear shorts in the summer (I’m not the biggest fan of shorts — anyone else with me?), plus they’re airy too. Either way, I’ve been mixing and matching them with everything these days. Last week we hosted a happy hour with some friends at North Italia here in town. Here’s a look at what I wore… READ MORE

Our Home: Update

Lifestyle Photography Classic American Home Decor

To say we’ve been living in this house for eight months really blows our minds. It felt like the home buying process took foreverrr, and then shortly after we moved in we quickly celebrated the holidays and then had a bunch of travel lined up. Just recently this house has begun to feel more like our home. From Sunday morning plant watering rituals and weekday dinners at home to the basket filled corner with Henry’s toys and shelves covered in books, we have our space and our routine and nothing has felt sweeter. It’s been quite a bit since we’ve done a formal update on our house. We’ve shared our renovation process for our kitchen and both bathrooms (master | hallway), as well as the plan for our soon-to-be casita, but as each room begins to take shape, we thought we’d share a little about the rest of the house and where we’re at right now. FashionABLE sandals

We’ve had a crazy week over here.  So much going on! We are starting work on our Casita real soon and that means transferring everything in there to our newly constructed shed.  It’s not the most exciting thing to be doing in the summer heat, but we are so ready to make this Casita happen.  It’s so fun to watch everything starting to come together.  Last night, we hosted a small happy hour with friends at one of our favorite spots in Phoenix, North Italia.  If you follow along with us on Instagram and Instagram stories you’ve probably seen us enjoying some calamari and pasta there.  It’s the best! This weekend we are getting our living room camera ready!  We are so close to sharing the space here on the blog, so keep an eye out for that reveal coming soon.  It’s been a long time coming!  We hope you all have an amazing weekend!  We want to thank everyone for the kind messages, DM’s, and emails about this post.  It’s truly meant everything to us and it’s that exact reason why we love sharing our personal story with you.  Cheers to the weekend!  Here are some of our favorite links from around the web this week.  Enjoy!

Christina’s Current Skincare Routine

Skincare is something that is very important to me. I grew up with very little emphasis on it and more of a focus on makeup and the importance of “getting ready” before going anywhere…presenting yourself in the “right” way. I could dedicate a whole post to that and dig pretty deep on how different perceptions of beauty affect us, but it could get pretty lengthy. I actually began writing this blog post with those thoughts and memories in mind, but figured I’d save it all for another day. Before makeup and before clothing comes into play in my daily routine, it starts and ends with taking care of my skin. I began to suffer with adult acne a year into college and it seemed to just get worse and worse. I tried multiple topical skincare products, high end ones, more affordable ones, at home laser treatments, supplements…it felt like everything and yet nothing was working. Then I began to really take note of what my body was reacting to and adjust my routine and that’s when I began to see change. If you’re suffering from adult acne, or just have those monthly flare ups, keep reading. I’m going to share some pretty crazy before photos and what has kept my acne at bay. READ MORE

Dresses with Balance

You know that old style rule, if you’re outfit is a little more revealing on top then cover up on the bottom? It’s one of the few style rules I follow. Okay, that sounds like I’m trying to say I’m some sort of rebel or something, but really…it makes a lot sense and this summer all I want to wear are maxi dresses, so it’s fun to mix things up with various necklines and accents. It took me so long to get into maxi styles (no pun intended) because as someone who is on the shorter side, I thought they just looked strange on me, but they are so comfortable and airy for these crazy temperatures! They’re all I’m reaching for lately. READ MORE

Roman Shades with Q Design Centre

When you’re renting you overlook a lot of things…countertops, windows, bathroom finishes, etc. The list goes on. It’s something we didn’t realize until we were in our home. When we were renting we thought, okay how can we make this place feel more like us and do it in an affordable and simple way? Window treatments are definitely something that can get expensive when designing a room. In our previous three apartments, we had vertical blinds. We didn’t love them, but we just tried to make it work….we put long curtains in front of them, plants in front of them…I’m sure you’re starting to see a pattern here. We basically just tried to hide them. 😉 READ MORE

We hope everyone had a fun 4th of July!  Our day was spent with a session of Pilates together and then a day at home with our pup.  We typically do a lot of celebrating on the 4th, but decided this year to lay low and enjoy some time in our house.  If you saw our Instagram post, we were also celebrating our 4 year anniversary of making the move across the country from New York to Phoenix.  It’s been a crazy run and we definitely have no regrets about it!  We have a lot of fun things planned for this next year of life in Phoenix and we hope you guys come along for the ride.  This weekend we are working on a really fun shoot that we can’t wait to share on here.  We just hope we don’t melt outside in the Phoenix heat.  Wish us luck!  Here are some of links from around the web we’ve been enjoying this week.  Enjoy!

Our Guesthouse: The Plan

So you may be thinking…”What? Another project? Didn’t you just finish the kitchen and bathrooms? Are you slightly losing your minds?” And the answer is yes, yes, yes and quite possibly! 😉 Haha As we wrap up some decor projects at the house and after a lot of back and forth we decided to go for probably the biggest project of all: our guesthouse/casita. Happy Friday! We are back to basics over here after a week of family in town.  We had an amazing time eating our way through Phoenix and Sedona this past week and we’re thinking we might stick to salad this weekend. Ha! This weekend we’ll be taking it easy.  There’s been quite a bit on our plate lately and we’re looking forward to some down time at home with Henry and a good audiobook.  At the moment, we don’t have any big 4th of July plans, but we’ll probably decide last minute that we want to run around with some sparklers somewhere, so be on the lookout for us being goofballs on Tuesday. 😉
