Put a bow on it!

It’s been a while since we’ve shared an outfit post. With all the crazy time changes and climate changes, I haven’t really thought about style for Arizona this season too much. I’m not fully ready to dive into shorts and tank tops, despite what the triple digits over here are telling me to do, so I think think this comfy blush and beige look will have to suffice. ūüėČ We snapped some photos on our way out of our friend’s flower shop the other day, because really, the set up at Camelback Flowershop is always too beautiful not to photograph. (We brought home some great plants for the living room! Can’t wait to share the space with you guys!)

Some new favorites with Nordstrom Rack

His: The Kooples shirt | Topman jeans | Aldo shoes (similar here) | Coach watch
Hers: Kate Spade dress, watch, and sunglasses (similar here and here) | Steve Madden shoes (similar here)

We are huge advocates for affordable style. ¬†We’ve always believed that dressing well has more to do with fit, quality, and versatility than just picking the “best” brand off the rack and throwing it on. ¬†Every year around this time, we try to add pieces that can be worn in different ways, as layers, or accessories that work for any occasion. ¬†Mixing high and low. It’s definitely more strategic than it looks. ¬†Picking out neutrals, timeless patterns, and comfortable shoes are very important to us. ¬†Nordstrom Rack is definitely not a new kid on the block, but we’re late to the game with discovering just how great the deals are. We often have trouble justifying an expensive watch or bag, so it’s been great to add some new pieces to our wardrobe without feeling guilty. ūüėČ Here are a few favorites for him and her we’re currently loving…

Formal Nights with Princess Cruises

We’re definitely guilty of indulging in a pajama day on the weekends or opting for a cozy night in, but there’s something to be said about how you feel when you dress up and pull yourself together. Like many we were completely obsessed with Mad Men, and part of the reason why we tuned in each week, aside from how incredibly bad ass Donald Draper was, had to do with the focus on fashion. Dates, parties, baseball games, even flying on plane…people used to simply dress up more for the occasion. READ MORE

Blushing in Paris

Ah, Paris! We completely fell in love with the city and got super lucky with our Airbnb being super close to so many great caf√©s and shops. (More details about the apartments coming soon! I know some of you guys are planning trips to Paris, and were inquiring about where we stayed.) We snapped some photos on the way to breakfast at Holybelly¬†one morning, while passing through this pretty square. It was quite windy that¬†day so layers were ideal and gave me the opportunity to bust out this leather jacket that has been collecting dust in my closet. ūüėČ I toned it down with a pleated blush skirt and feminine off the shoulder top. Sunset at Pont Neuf

Back in the spring of 2011, we were spending a few days in south Florida visiting some family.  The two of us spent an afternoon downtown having lunch and then spontaneously decided to catch a movie.  We had no idea what was playing, nor did we really care too much.  It was one of those days where going to the movies was all we wanted to do.  We have those days quite a bit actually, but there is just something about watching a story unfold, eating popcorn and snacks, tuning out the real world, and getting sucked in to a good film.  We looked at the list of movies playing, and the title Midnight in Paris caught our eye.  We had recalled seeing the trailer a bit before our trip and have loved Woody Allen for years, so it felt like the perfect afternoon date.

Bonjour!

Bonjour! We arrived in Paris two days ago and couldn’t be more excited to be here. Our flight arrived early Thursday morning and we completely embraced the light rain that welcomed us in. It was cloudy and cozy and pretty perfect. On our way to our Airbnb we watched through our cab’s window, as we peeked in on the city’s morning commute…watching children walk to school clutching to their parents’ side and business men and women rush to the subway with a coffee in hand and headphones in. Even in our sleep deprived state, we immediately felt lucky to be here and experience their culture for a few days. READ MORE

An Afternoon in SoHo

New Darlings Lifestyle Blog NYC Winter Outfits

Leather leggings, where have you been all my life? During our time in SoHo we stopped into the Aritzia store on Broadway and I had some fun with their staff, styling a few cold weather looks for NYC. These faux leather leggings, thick knit sweater, and bomber jacket were the perfect pieces to layer with over a plain tee while running around the city that day. Lunch and a sweet treat at Maman hit the spot before shopping around a bit more and meeting with friends for coffee. For the most part it was a pretty laid back day and the chill in the air reminded us why we loved New York this time of year so much. We ended up heading back to Long Island during rush hour for a family dinner, and in true New York fashion dashed from our cab in the middle of bumper to bumper traffic to catch our train. Running through Penn Station definitely brought back some memories for us. Haha! READ MORE

A Windy Day in NYC

New Darlings Aritzia Winter CoatNew Darlings Aritzia Winter Coat

With a new year, comes a new perspective. Something we both decided we really wanted to be conscious of this year is sharing more of those “in-between” moments here on the blog. We chatted a bit about it as far as our home renovation and projects go, but the same goes for fashion and our everyday outfits.¬†Here’s a look at an outfit I wore yesterday for meetings in the city and then lunch and shopping with friends. It was sooo much colder than I remembered NY winters to be, but a few layers kept me warm while running in and out of cabs. READ MORE
