A Weekend Away in Flagstaff

Since moving to Arizona in 2013, we have made the two hour trip up north to Flagstaff at least once each year. When we first moved to Phoenix, we didn’t know much about Flagstaff. It wasn’t a city we heard much about until our first “autumn” in Phoenix came along. Coming from New York, we waited and waited for the temperatures to cool down, but started feeling really down when that didn’t really happen. A few of the friends we met early on told us to go up north and we’d start to see the beauty of this entire state. We didn’t really believe them at the time, and thought it was just something an Arizonan might say, but the second we drove into northern Arizona for the first time, and saw actual snow lining the streets, we knew it was legit. It is the winter we can’t find in Phoenix and the summer getaway we we always yearn for, with the small-town feel that is just sometimes necessary to recharge.

We recently took the trip up to Flagstaff for the first time with Oliver. Since his birth in late June, he really hasn’t spent more than maybe 30 total minutes outside. It’s just simply been way too hot and unsafe for a newborn to be outside, so you can imagine our excitement to finally show our baby the outside world. We couldn’t wait for him to see the trees, feel the wind in his hair, and stroll through the town all day long. We decided to spend two nights there at an Airbnb we actually stayed at in 2015 (see that post: HERE). The temperatures were gloriously in the 50’s to 70’s and you better believe we busted out the sweaters and jackets.

It was super trippy to take some of the same exact photos we had taken 4 years earlier with Oliver. (Check out this older post HERE to see what we mean.) The coolest thing about this blog is connecting with our readers along the way, but the other part of it is actually watching ourselves grow older as we tell our story in real time.

^^First dinner out just the three of us. We’ve taken Oliver out for dinners with family while they were visiting but this was our first family date. It felt good, even though Oliver napped for like 15 minutes. Ha!

New Darlings Lifestyle Photos Travel with BabySezane Personalized JacketAs Oliver gets older, and we inevitably take him to all the places and cities we’ve visited before him, it will be so fun to retake so many old photos again with him now in them. It’s a special way to remind us where we’ve come from, where we’ve been, and how having a baby doesn’t mean everything has to change, even if you move a little slower. 😉 It’s a chance for us to teach our little one about seeking adventure, learning from different people and cultures, and seeing how different cities are different than our own.
