It’s October!

New Darlings - Fall Music Favorites + Record Player Guide

A new season to us always means a new batch of records.  Last year, we posted our essential autumn records and while we can’t claim that these are more essential, we feel that they are equally as important to our record collection.  When we first started dating we used to make iTunes playlists for each season and I definitely remember our first fall as a couple and taking long drives around town, listening to Modest Mouse and The Microphones while getting to know each other.  Certain albums never get old and these are some of our favorites for these cooler, pumpkin filled, October days.  Enjoy!

The Dodos – Visiter
Morning Benders – Big Echo
Grizzly Bear – Yellow House
The Microphones – The Glow, Pt. 2
Bon Iver – Bon Iver
Modest Mouse – The Moon & Antarctica
Fleet Foxes – Fleet Foxes
Cat Power – The Greatest
The Tallest Man on Earth – There’s No Leaving Now
Iron & Wine – Our Endless Numbered Days

What are your essential albums (or songs) for fall?  We’d love to add some to our list.

  1. Those Grizzly Bear and Cat Power albums are always on rotation at our house! 🙂 I also love the Cat Power Covers record. So good!

If you have a moment to check it out, my husband and I make music under the name I Hate You Just Kidding. It’s kind of a dreamy folky pop. http://ihateyoujustkidding.com

As always thank you for the amazing posts!

  2. You may be the only people outside of my husband and I who I know listen to The Dodos – Visiter album and Morning Benders – Big Echo album. I love those so much!! Now the songs are in my head. I know the other bands too but was all, “WOAH” when I saw those two listed.

    Sweet!

  3. Lovely recomendations! We recently visited the states fro the first time (we´re from sweden, aka the land of The Tallest man on Earth 😉 and when in Denver we randomly went to a Ben Sollee gig and his music has seriously been the soundtrack of my fall ever since.

  4. LOVE all of those albums so so so much!! Such good memories with that Dodos album! Recently saw Tallest Man on earth, and currently binging on the new Bon Iver ?. I’m still super into Strange Trails by Lord Huron and I’m seeing Andrew Bird in a week, so I’m catching up on his new album.

New England fall really sets the mood for amazing music!

    1. Oh man! This all sounds so much fun! We haven’t seen Andrew Bird live, but I feel like that would be such a great show! We’ve had the pleasure of seeing Tallest Man On Earth and The Dodos – both SO good in such different ways. 🙂 Loving your music taste…we’ll have to check out Lord Huron.

  5. We’re all old stuff here. I actually just bought a bunch of dusty used albums last night. Harry Chapin, Supertramp, and some other random stuff. I do adore that record cabinet though!!!
