Our master bedroom has come a long way since we first moved into our house back in November. It is a very modest, cottage-like space that we didn’t know we were looking for when we first started our house hunt almost a year ago. Most modern master bedrooms are MASSIVE and have tons of closet space, and seating areas and when we moved to Arizona we thought “yeah, we’ll take one of those!”, but man, when we first saw this house in the thick of our house hunt, we felt something special in the old charm of a very practical space. This Tudor has seen a thing or two since being built in 1930 and we are letting her do the talkin’. In our last apartment we made a conscious decision to make our bedroom a room for sleeping not an extension of our office or living room and we brought that theme over to our house. It isn’t a room with a tv, or laptops, or anything that would distract us from feeling rested. In our first apartment, putting a tv in our bedroom felt like a luxury. We loved curling up in bed and watching movies until we felt tired enough to fall asleep. It sounds great, and it probably was for a while there, but it definitely kept us from the rest we really needed. Distractions are all around us, and we work in a field that is constantly swallowed up with technology, so we felt that if there was one room in our house that was just for us it would be the bedroom.

When we were designing our master bedroom in this house we thought about what brings us comfort. In the past, we would just have probably jammed a bunch of greenery in the room and called it a day, but in this home of ours, we are trying to be practical and focus more on simplicity and meaning. Our top three priorities for our little retreat: simple greenery, minimal decor, and comfy bedding.
So here’s a peek at the room before hand. This picture cracks us up. It’s like Henry is making his way in to call dibs on the space. Haha. We made a few minor changes to the room to give it a little facelift: swapped out the beige switch plates for white ones, replaced the sconces and ceiling fan (You can’t tell from the photo below but there was a brown and black one in the room. This white one is great – just blends right into the ceiling), and removed the corner brackets from the doorway. Our bedroom doesn’t necessarily have a door, but there is a door/hallway leading into our own little retreat in the back of the house where our room and master bathroom are. The wall behind the headboard is where our master bathroom is and also the location of our next project!

A few months ago, Parachute Home got in touch about trying out some of their new bedding. We were over the moon excited to try out some of their linens and quilts, as we’ve been reading so many amazing things about the company and the mark they are making on the home design industry. We’re happy to say we are finally settled in and it feels good to have a comfy bedroom to retreat to at night, especially while some of the other rooms are still a bit unsure of themselves. We’ve been leaning towards a minimal Scandinavian style with this place, with hints of old charm in the accents and certain furniture pieces. While we typically gravitate towards white bedding to brighten up a room, we found with this room that we actually preferred the moodier, coal Linen Venice Set, plus they’re super soft! We honestly can’t even peek inside of our bedroom without wanting to take a quick nap. Now it’s time for the other rooms in our house to get the hint and start getting it together.

If you like to sleep in on the weekends or travel often, the Merino Travel Kit from Parachute is such a great wishlist item! It comes with a sleep mask, little travel case, and soft blanket.
We finished off the room with a few prints we found on etsy (this print by artist Kai Samuel Davis is one of our favorites!) and had them framed in matching Sonoma frames from Framebridge. We are the worst when it comes to framing, especially when it comes to figuring out matting sizes, so it was really nice to be able to lay everything out on their website, mail in our prints and get them back ready to hang with the hardware and all! Easy peasy!

Agreed! So soft! 🙂
What a beautiful space, friends! Love how cozy and comfortable it feels — not that I would expect anything less! And the before + after photos are so great — Henry knew it was his space from the beginning! 😉
This is such a beautiful, relaxing room. Right now, I feel like our bedroom is more of a storage closet, and it does NOT help me de-stress in the evenings, haha. I especially love the artwork and frames you have on the walls. <3

Thanks Samantha. And oh man! We definitely know what you mean about it feeling like a storage closet. It definitely took some time to get everything in order over here. Now on to the other rooms! Haha
I love your bed frame.
Thanks Sophie! 🙂
Gorgeous! I love the marble sidetable x

What a cozy bedroom! I especially love the gold frame with the polaroids on your bedside table- where did you find such a beautiful piece?
Thanks!
We got it from Urban Outfitters around the holidays. Here’s the link: http://bit.ly/2kQXuOx 🙂
Seems like a silly question but what white paint did you use and are you happy with it? I’ve been driven mad looking for the “right white”…something not cold feeling and doesn’t feel like I’m living in an asylum!
Your room looks really cozy so any suggestions for picking a shade would so be appreciated! ?
Not silly at all. The walls are actually a pure white (done by the previous owners) and then we did the window frames in Whisper white. Hope that helps! 🙂
It turned out beautifully! So cozy and homey! I love it!

Thanks so much Audrey!
I’m loving how your bedroom came together! So simple, yet cozy and gorgeous. I couldn’t agree more about keeping technology in the bedroom to a minimum. Deciding to ditch our bedroom TV has been the best decision I’ve made!
Thanks for the kind words Ciara! It’s nice to have a space that’s a little more laid back, so we’re not so “plugged in” all the time.
We love our Parachute bedding it’s the best! Your interior style is so gorgeous by the way!
Isn’t their stuff amazing? We’re loving it. Thanks so much Dianna. 🙂
It’s beautiful! Love the styling 🙂
I’m in love with all of it! Can you tell me more about all the bedding? Is that a white quilt over the duvet? The combo looks amazing!
Thank you so much! That really means a lot! We usually go for all white, but the coal linen bedding was such a fun combo with the quilt. The quilt is from Parachute also. It’s their Essential Quilt, linked here. 🙂
I love the way you have decorate the room, it looks well put but also very homely! Lovely post!

Your bedroom looks so nice! I have recently have moved, too but I am still figuring things out. Hopefully my bedroom will look as nice as yours in the future!
Have a great day! x
Great use of space, the bedroom design looks amazing. The lights use with the brass gold color looks great and the hugs more wall art is beautiful. Thanks for the bedroom decor ideas.
I love the brass lighting fixtures! And the way they contrast with the black bed is truly gorgeous! We just purchased our home about 3 months ago in San Francisco (an old Victorian that is filled with old charm!) and I’m trying to get as much inspiration as possible! Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much Ali. Congrats on your new place! SF is one of our favorite places. I’m sure you’re home will come along beautifully. Best of luck! 🙂
hey! looks awesome. odd request – do you know where that ceiling fan is from? a really nice simple functional compliment to the space.
Hi, yes and couldn’t agree more! It’s from Amazon. We linked to it above in the blog post. 🙂
I’m in love with your home! the plants give it life, i was wondering where you got them? & the vases! 🙂
Hi Kayla, thanks so much! 🙂 We get our pants and flowers from all over…Camelback Flowershop, Trader Joe’s, Berridge Nursery. If you’re in AZ, those are a few great local spots. The glass vases are from World Market. Hope that helps. xo
hello! love the space you’ve created:) I love your ceiling fan, any chance you know where it came from?
Hi! I was wondering how you have enjoyed your bedframe? I’m looking at purchasing the same one from Crate & Barrel, but some of the reviews say the bed squeaks? Has this happened to you or have you found the bed frame to be sturdy and hold up well?
Thanks!
It’s been super sturdy. We really like it. The Crate & Barrel team put it together and placed it as part of the delivery option we chose, so we felt pretty confident with it. 🙂 It’s such a classic style…I think you’ll enjoy it. We found similar ones on Target and Overstock but decided to go with this one in the end.
What a beautiful layout. I love how cozy and warm it looks. Curious though, where you get that instax Polaroid frame? So hard to find frames to fit these polaroids. Thank you.
