How to Create an Earthy Bedroom
When creating any space, I aim for it to be functional and beautiful. I always ask myself how I want to feel when I am enjoying any room in our home. When it comes to the bedroom, it’s important to me to create a calming and cozy environment for my myself and my husband. Neutrals are always so soothing, so creating an earthy bedroom was important to me for our new house. Here are my go-to design tips for creating a cozy and earthy bedroom, that will make you feel like you’re in the heart of the desert.
Incorporate Wood Furniture
I love the way wooden furniture ages over time. It fades, it wears, it tells a story. The grooves and knots of the wood have such a natural beauty that instantly add warmth to any space. This also helps blend indoor outdoor living with natural tones. This beautiful chair and ottoman is from Sixpenny.

Mix Textures
Mixing textures is my number one tip for adding depth to any space, especially when you love neutrals. Mixing textures through baskets, quilts, blanket materials, furniture and accents prevents a room from reading flat. Adding an accent wall with plaster or lime wash paint is an easy and high impact way to create interest and add texture. We did this behind our bed with lime strong plaster for a textured look. On our bed we have a mix of linen bedding, wool pillows and a throw with natural fibers, all anchored with a textured neutral brown rug. I have a lot of wood furniture in our primary bedroom, but they all have different textures and shapes to keep things interesting.

Add Earthy and Natural Accents
I am ceramics obsessed and I love mixing found vintage pieces with new artists throughout my home. Ceramics give you the opportunity to add another texture to your bedroom too, while infusing some personality and fun to the space. Vases, vessels, catch all trays, and figures are a few of my favorite accents in our bedroom.

Decorate with Warm Colors for a Soothing Bedroom Oasis
When decorating an earthy bedroom I love to draw inspiration from the surrounding tones of the desert: oranges and ochres, browns and sand, and creams. Sometimes a deep terracotta for contrast can really be a nice pop in a neutral space and add warmth.
