A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of visiting Washington DC with Fairmont Hotels. They recently were one of the few hotels to incorporate the Seeker Project installation. The Seeker Project is a really fun interactive experience that taps in to different parts of your senses to better help you plan your next trip. The installation is set up as a pop up booth right there in the lobby of the Fairmont hotel for guests to try out. The online version mirror the tech experience and can recommend spots in the hotel to visit based on how you specifically answer each question, as well as give you some suggestions for your next getaway.

Rob and I both tried it out and we got a kick out of our results. According to our Seeker Project results we were both craving a cold weather getaway where we could take it easy and reconnect with loved ones. Guess DC was the right spot to spend the next few days because we were able to enjoy the fall foliage, check out some coffee shops, and take in all the historic tourist attractions.

We were welcomed with the most appetizing spread of fruit and nuts and cheese, can’t forget those macaroons either! Oh my goodness, it was the best to get off the plane and just unpack while munching on these goodies, because we were definitely hungry! When you sign up for LeClub Membership with Accorhotels, you can add preferences for arrival…just like ordering this awesome cheese plate. 😉

Rob and I both visited DC years ago individually while we were in high school, so it was fun to experience the city together now as a married couple. Even if places are new to us, its special to experience them together and make new memories. We explored the sites by day… Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, all the must-see spots…

…and enjoyed dinner at the hotel in the evening. We were so impressed with all the food at the hotel, and even did room service one night. We’re such suckers for eating in bed when away from home. Nothing feels more like a getaway to me than a plush robe and room service. 😉 Their restaurant Juniper, also sources all fresh and local ingredients.

The hotel has cocktails and cozy fire pits in the courtyard in the evening too! We snapped these photos in the morning, but I had to share anyway. The courtyards were incredibly beautiful and lush…we got a ton of landscaping inspiration too. 😉

We took some time to explore some shops as well while we were in town. There were so many cute boutiques that we walked to. Getting outside in the autumn air was so refreshing.  Here’s a few of the shops we checked out, below:

• Blue Bottle Coffee – grab a coffee to go while you shop around
• Little Leaf – such a cute home goods store and plant shop
• Current Boutique – great selection of vintage clothing and new
• Salt & Sundry – left with a cookbook and some fun home decor pieces
• La Colombe Coffee Roasters – we took a break from our stroll and got a cookie and two coffees
• District Doughnut – the seasonal doughnuts were so yummy, oh my gosh!
• Pizzeria Paradiso – before heading to the airport we enjoyed a Margherita pie and it did not disappoint!

One of our favorite experiences during our time in DC was the Modern Afternoon Tea. The afternoon made us feel like we were back in London for high tea! If you’re a tea lover like me, you’ll go wild for this. We loved every minute of it!

Our few days in DC seemed to just fly by, but we’re already dreaming up another visit. I feel like it would be so beautiful to go during the holidays! I just keeping dreaming about all that snow! The Seeker Project experience recommended we check out the Netherlands next, so maybe we should start planning. 😉
