A few weeks ago we took a trip up north for an extended weekend stay. We were celebrating our friends’ wedding and we thought, why not take a few days to enjoy the red rocks instead of driving back late right after the wedding? So, that we did. I never understood the hype about Sedona…Flagstaff stole my heart immediately when we moved to Arizona, but Sedona always seemed like a grower not a shower in my book. A few days at Enchantment Resort totally changed my mind and now I’m counting down the days until we go back. I have never felt so relaxed and connected to space as I did than when we were there…
^^ Making some deer friends…they were so cute and graced the property so peacefully. It was magical to see the little families of deer just hanging on the golf courses with the red rocks in the background.
One of our go-to lunches while we were there: guac and tacos! As you guys know, we travel often…one of the things we couldn’t stop saying while were there was how good the food was. Sometimes resorts have one thing going for them….the views, the staff, the atmosphere. Honestly, we were blown away by all of the above and most importantly the food! Each dish was so satisfying. Also – the kale and shrimp salad poolside is a must!

How can you not be relaxed with this view? This summer was the first time in years I got a little “color” from the sun after living in the desert for five years. I’m usually neurotic about sun safety and skin protection, but I honestly was so at ease just hanging by the water the sunshine made its way through my layers of SPF. I spent hours outside daydreaming…that definitely was my happy place.

We danced the night away with friends to a blue grass band while clouds of dust surrounded us, kicked up from everyone’s shoes. It was such a fun night and such a pleasant change from the weddings we attended back east.
The photo above is definitely a lot less glamorous, but it will always be a special reminder of our time in Sedona. We set up a guided Native American hike through the resort and I was blown away by the experience. We spent several hours with our guide who explained the history of Native American culture and the growth in the community throughout the years in Sedona. He taught us about which plants are native to the land, which could be used for healing and eating. We also tapped into the spiritual aspect that Sedona is known for, but honestly I was not ready to feel what I did…to be able to breathe the way I did and gain so much clarity from this trip…it was unbelievable. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say I am often in my own head, overthinking things, over planning things, and so on. I’ve gotten so much better at it over the years, but this experience was a complete game changer and I’ll always be grateful for that evening on the trail. We hiked back as the sun set and then headed back to the resort for dinner and an evening swim.
I think Enchantment will become one of those places that we go to unwind and unplug. If you haven’t been out to the desert yet, this is a good place to start.

Love this post, thanks for sharing!
Agreed Sedona is such a great spot. Enchantment Resort is one of the best hotels in Arizona too!
