Family Room / Playroom
Welcome to our den, family room, playroom whatever you want to call it. I was so against a “playroom” when we were building this house, but the reality was I wanted a place to house all of our son’s toys, family games, and just have a hangout room I wouldn’t worry about when kids came over. I feel like I was able to strike a happy balance with a room that is functional for our son and family, as well a room that still some style and fit seamlessly with the rest of the house.
I feel like that all began with the media unit. I searched for something with hidden storage for all the *things* and Article’s Torme Media Storage Set was the perfect fit. The wood finish is almost an identical match to our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, which I love, and there’s so much room! Clutter makes me feel crazy, so being able to have a space for everything when play and that big imagination goes to rest each night, was huge for me!
In lieu of a coffee table, we kept a kids play table and chairs by the couch. Perfect for crafts and easy to move around if needed.
Tucked away in this corner is one of my favorite reading spots. We added this roun Neva chair from SixPenny in Sweet Potato making this corner extra cozy. It’s so comfyyyyy! It’s usually where I read…perfect place to hang out with O too and cuddle up while we listen to his Tonie player. This room goes through so many phases each day… art time, reading, the boys playing music, working, play, movie nights! Oh and it swivels!
Also peep that beautiful art work from Tucson artist, Scout Dunbar. You might remember her from our latest artist series highlight. Her paintings embody what so many of us love about the Southwest: the soft and calming color palette, dreamy landscapes, and desert whimsy. You can read the full feature HERE.
To see how I organized all the toys, games and art supplies, watch the video below for a more detailed look at the storage unit.

There’s still a few things I want to do in here, ahem I’m looking at you pocket doors! (I have an idea – stay tuned!) 😉 but overall I’m really happy with how cozy and warm this space is. It’s where we have movie nights, play music and board games. It’s a good hang out family spot filled with a lot of warmth and some of my favorite Arizona finds and makers.
