We’re happy to be partnering with Walmart and ShopStyle on a very special post today, all about sparking change in communities. Walmart is celebrating their 6th annual “Fight Hunger. Spark Change” campaign, to help end food insecurity across the US by partnering with Feeding America® and we’re excited to be taking part in it.
Before things heat up over here in Phoenix we’ve been taking advantage of our afternoons outdoors together. Whether its BBQing dinner together or just enjoying a simple lunch, picnic style, on the grass, it’s been nice to spend more time at home before the baby comes. Sandwiches, fruit, and a few granola bars for good measure fill our basket.
PB&J sandwiches always make me think about when Rob and I first started dating. We went to my sister’s field day at her elementary school when she was pretty little and we packed along a few sandwiches and snacks, not too different than the set up above. Rob made a huge deal over how much he loved the sandwich. I was shocked…I thought it was so simple, it was just PB&J. Did he really never have a PB&J sandwich before? As it turned out he grew up eating just peanut butter (hold the jelly) and we had a good laugh about how much he enjoyed his lunch. It’s sad to think some kids really do grow up without these lunch staples…because they don’t have access to even simple meals like these.
40 million Americans struggle with food insecurity. That means every 1 in 8 Americans don’t know where their next meal is coming from, which is pretty alarming. I’m sure we’re not alone with knots in our stomachs just thinking about those stats, so how can we help? For every participating product purchased at Walmart between now and May 20th, the manufacturer will donate $0.10 to Feeding America – enough to secure at least 1 meal on behalf of local food banks. To make things simple, each manufacturer’s maximum donation is provided on the participating packages, so you know just how you’re helping out and how much is being contributed.
It’s an easy way for everyone to get involved in something truly meaningful. How do you guys help out your local communities? Do you have a charity of choice you contribute to? We’d love to hear. 🙂
