Spooky decorations were never really our thing and now that we have a home of our own, I find myself gravitating toward all the decor pieces I used to poke fun at my mom with even more. As a kid I wanted the fake cobwebs in the corner of our living room and on the couch, play spiders and bats hanging from the ceiling and witches and ghosts around every turn. So I guess it’s natural for your tastes to change as you grow older, and that whole “harvest” decor style vs spooky and creepy is totally what I’ve been reaching for in stores lately. Also, let’s be real…with travel and the normal day to day, we have just started decorating the last week or so, so anything that takes us into Thanksgiving, we’re all about! I will try to contain my excitement over the sweet little scarecrows we finallyyy put out front…one is a quite lopsided and they’re not really placed perfectly, but I’m telling myself it just adds character to the whole set up. 😉
So a fall tablescape that’s still bright and cheery has been the look in our dining room these days. Mixed neutral stoneware, copper flatware, and smokey jewel glasses from Target’s P62 line caught our eye and I love how they can easily be used throughout the rest of the year. When bringing anything into our home we really like to consider the versatility and I think we’ve gotten better with it over the years. When we were engaged we registered for so many silly things, but one of the smartest kitchen/dining purchases we made back then were neutral linens. We had a gift card to CB2 and stocked up on items like serving ware and the cloth napkins shown above. They have gotten so much use over the four years we’ve been married and we’re always happy to pull them out during a get together or holiday dinner.
We layered simple greenery, autumn gourds and baby pumpkins on top of this black and white table runner, which could definitely be used for various parties and events throughout each season. So many of you guys sent us photos of your own take on this after seeing our post on IG. It was so fun to see your fall decor and table settings! We just used eucalyptus from Trader Joe’s and a few of their mini pumpkin branches in the kitchen, to continue the fall vibe. We’re big believers in, don’t make something more complicated than it needs to be, especially when it comes to decorating.

To finish things off, add a few matte black candlestick holders (I need to get more of these in varying heights) and get ready to serve up your cheeseboard and drinks!
The timing of this post is perfect, thank you for sharing : ) We just ordered a dining table + chairs from West Elm so I’m suuper excited to have something new before the holidays. We have antique furniture that is quite literally on its last leg. haha. I will definitely be getting this gorgeous table runner. I think it’ll go nicely w/ small succulents I’ve brought in for the season. : )
