So we may have just gotten home from more than half a month of travel, but we know it’s only a matter of time before we get the itch to hit the road again. We’ve surprised ourselves with how much traveling we’ve actually done in the past eight months: ten different states across the USA, and we even were able to explore the Mediterranean and Caribbean. With each trip we’re getting a little smarter about how we travel.
Up until a few months ago we were rolling around the same luggage from high school and it wasn’t until one of our bags actually got stuck in the belt at the airport on our way to SXSW, that we realized it was time for an upgrade. Think about that sense of panic that sets in when you’re the last one waiting at baggage claim and there’s not a bag in sight. Yes! Well now imagine a sweet older lady coming over to you and telling you that they actually have your bag pulled aside. Sigh of relief, right? Wrong. Then you hear, “There was a bit of a problem.” You walk over to an office where your luggage basically looks like a torpedo went through it, with a big hole in the middle, and white dust all over it. (Looking back, we really wish we took a photo of it all, but we were too busy frantically stuffing everything into one suitcase and throwing away damaged clothes and toiletries, while trying to catch our ride from the airport.) Somehow it felt off a belt, got stuck in the belt, got run over on the runway…who knows, we never got the full story. Thankfully, we’ve been able to test out, and fall in love with (Can you fall in love with luggage? Well, we’re guilty of it!), the collection from Away. Before leaving for Europe, we were able to get our hands on their carry-ons, and we won’t lie, we were a bit giddy rolling through the airport with all four wheels! Haha. It’s the little things right? Well, today they just released their complete luggage collection, with medium and large size options.
The whole luggage set fits inside one another, just like those cute little Russian nesting dolls you may have had growing up. 😉 The carry-on fits in the medium, and the medium fits inside the large. This is a major plus for us, as we are in an apartment, and every inch of storage and closet space counts!
Here are the exact specs and all the details on each size:
-The Carry-On: 38L capacity / 7.2 lbs. / 21.7” H x 13.7” W x 9” D
-The Medium: 62L capacity / 8.5 lbs. / 25” H x 17.5” W x 10.5” D
-The Large: 86L capacity / 9.9 lbs. / 28” H x 19.5” W x 12” D
We spoke a little about it in our packing post for Europe, but in case you missed it and are considering some new luggage, heres a few reasons why we love Away:
-lightweight
-flexible and durable
-locking zippers
-removable and washable laundry bag
-sleek design
-four swivel wheels
-built-in USB ports and chargers for the carry-on model
Away has generously offered our readers $20 off with the code: NEWDARLINGS20 from now through 6/30!
These will be perfect for any summer adventures you may have planned! Happy travels!

I’m sorry about your old suitcase, but I’m glad you’ve found new ones! Suitcases can be expensive, but a good quality one is a good investment 🙂 I love that these suitcases nest inside each other! My family always nests suitcases when we travel so that we have space to bring back our new purchases! (i.e. we’ll often come back from the States with a whole suitcase of cereal…) -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
Thank you! 🙂 That’s such a good idea to travel with them nesting…more room for gifts and souvenirs! Haha Love it! XO
The Russian nesting doll feature is a big deal! I might need to upgrade my luggage soon! I like that you have a his and hers set – in regards to the colors 😉
Hi there!
Question about the photos with you in them, is that by change the medium or the large? I’m trying to figure out what size to get. The medium seems like the more logical sense in terms of traveling your way through the world in a tight, compact way but at the same time I’m not sure it would be big enough for an over packer like me haha.
Hey Mikee! Thanks for the comment. I’m photographed with the medium luggage here. It’s a pretty great size and the one we probably use most often. We use the large one when traveling to cold weather climates where we’ll need coats and heavier sweaters, but for most of the year, the medium is our go-to. Hope this helps!
This helps tremendously as 90% of the time we travel to warmer climates. Medium it is, thank you!
So glad that helped! No problem. 🙂
I’m pretty set on buying their Carry-On and appreciated your review! I really love the look of the sand color, but I’m wondering if you’ve had issues with lots of scuffing while traveling. I would be using mine predominantly for overhead carry-on so it shouldn’t have to be tossed around much under the plane. Thanks in advance!
Hi Lauren, Thanks for your comment! Yes, the sand does get scuffed up a bit, and I was able to clean it with a Mr Clean magic eraser in the beginning, but then I just left it. Haha. We travel a bit so they do get thrown around often, even our carry on that sometimes has to get checked depending on how crowded the flight is. But you can clean it if you want to and shouldn’t have any problems. 🙂 Hope you enjoy them!
What color luggage do you have? Sand? I’m asking because yours look white.
Yes, they are the sand shade. 🙂
Hi, What size is the sand-colored one?
