Every season I like to switch up my hair routine a bit, especially during the winter months. The cold air is harsh, the damp weather causes frizz, and it could feel like one bad hair day after another, where you continuously find yourself reaching for a hat. Now a days there are so many hair products at our fingertips…oils, mousses, sprays, the list goes on. It’s hard to tell which ones are actually necessary and/or actually work. We shared a few of our hair favorites a while back, but with the new year upon us, it felt appropriate to share an updated list of our go-tos that come in handy with the change of season, as well as a few “holy grail” products too.
My hair is super curly naturally, which means to get loose curls like I usually style, a lot of heat is applied to my hair. First, I blow dry it straight, then curl my hair with a large curling wand. All the heat isn’t the best thing for my hair, but over time I’ve found a few go-to products and treatments that still keep it shiny and healthy.
To start, I only wash my hair every two days. This is for two reasons…one: I am a tad bit too lazy to blow dry and style it everyday, and two: the more you shampoo your hair, you strip away the healthy oils from your scalp. In between washes I use a dry shampoo. I just spray a little bit on my roots before bed and in the morning for a little refresher. Before blow drying and styling, I add a few drops of Moroccanoil Treatment, which is infused with argan oil, to the ends of my hair to fight off any split ends and add shine. I’ve discovered the benefits of argan oil in general. Pure Argan Oil has been a great multi-purpose product during the winter months. You can use it on your face, hands, and legs too.
Next I add a dime sized amount of Moroccanoil thickening lotion to the roots of my hair. This has been one of my favorite volumizing products…it smells so good and a little bit goes a long way! My hair has gotten a little thinner over the years and this definitely helps with making it look full.
Once a week I like to do a hair mask, to reverse any damage from styling. This hydrating mask is always a good go-to. I leave it on for about 20 minutes while I fold laundry or watch a quick episode on Netflix. Rob loves it too. Can anyone say, “hair mask party?!” 😉 When it’s time to rinse I use cool water to seal the cuticle and avoid any frizz.

This is so helpful! My hair has been getting so dry and I have been looking for a good hair mask. I’ll definitely be checking out the one in this post. It’s NECESSARY.
Thanks for sharing a little of your routine and some favorites! Your hair is so beautiful, I love hearing your tips! I never would have guessed it’s naturally very curly! 🙂
I have used this oil for years and love it. I have naturally super curly hair as well. I would love to see how you style it if you ever leave it natural!
Great post! I believe I have a similar hair texture to yours and I’d love to know what kind of hair cut you ask for, particularly to achieve fullness at the ends. Also, have you always had long hair or have you cut it shorter and grown it back? I’m trying to grow my hair back to this length and it just doesn’t seem to want I get there as easily as when I was 20! (I’m 28 now) any advice would be helpful! Xo
Hi there! I ask for a pretty simple haircut when I go to the salon – long layers with a bangs trim. My hair has always been pretty long. I only cut it short once (maybe five years ago now?) to collar-bone length. Looking back, it grew pretty quickly, but it felt like forever at the time…I do occasional hair masks and try not to wash it everyday. Hope that helps. Feel free to reach out with any other questions. Thanks so much for following along! 🙂
Hi there! How do you usually style your bangs so they are so even? I have bangs myself, but I can never get them to stay put!
Thanks so much! 🙂
Love your blog 🙂 It’s so interesting and helpful. I would love to give moroccan oil a try and I hope I’ll have the same result as you. Lovely hair. Thank you for sharing.
This post has been an answer to my prayer! I love the Moroccan oil company but seeing the results on your hair Im hopping my fine, oily hair responds the same way!
Do you use a boar bristle brush? If so, how has it held up? Thanks!
Hi there! First of all, your hair is SO beautiful. I too have very curly hair, that is unfortunately short and VERY difficult to grow. I have been in love with hair long hair and a blunt straight across bangs haircut. I’ve tried different types of keratin treatments on my hair to help achieve the look but it has always failed. I still continue to cut my bangs every year or so because I love how it looks. However I am wondering how you get your bangs to look naturally so straight? When I do my bangs they curl up so quickly and don’t look anywhere near how yours do. Any tips/suggestions for a fellow very curly haired gal who just wants those straight across bangs to look good!
Is this all you use? How do you get that soft wave or is it natural? I’ve been trying to take better care of my hair and don’t know where to begin!!
