Toddler Room Update

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a room reveal or interior project with you all. We are so deep in planning for the Tucson house that I haven’t shared much of our current living situation. I can’t believe we’ve been in the rental over a year now – a tad bit longer than we initially planned, but this place has been good to us while we plan our dream home. Since moving here, there has been so much growth in our toddler. We now have a 3 year old, with a ton of energy, a vivacious vocabulary and great love for books and music. We updated his toddler room recently with an amazing Montessori inspired shelf from Article, and I wanted to share how its been the perfect addition to his room, along with a few other decor pieces and our favorite toddler activities.

Montessori-Inspired Shelf in a Toddler’s Room: Article’s Mysen Shelf

In the past we’ve shared about O’s shelf set-ups, starting with this low profile shelf when he was just crawling. This is what ignited my love for incorporating the Montessori method into our own home, giving him access to everything at his level, and giving him space to make choices. Well, he’s obviously grown so the Mysen shelf from Article felt like the perfect upgrade. I love how versatile this shelf is. Rob was almost tempted to use it for his records – ha! The wood is really beautiful quality and lends itself to a variety of interior styles. (It also comes in a smaller size and darker wood as well.)

We still continue to rotate activities on O’s shelf every other week or so. At 3 years old, some of his favorite activities are: MagnaTiles, Counting Pegs, his Olie Ella wooden dollhouse, and the moveable alphabet. We use the movable alphabet in numerous ways: searching for toys in the room that begin with a certain We rotate out books often, but they’re scattered around his room in various categories that we just some of his favorites. An Earthy Printed Rug from The Citizenry that is Neutral yet Playful

If you’ve been a follower for quite a while now, you might remember our old apartment office reveal featuring a beautiful leather chair from The Citizenry. I still have plans for that chair in the new house – is a beaut! The Citizenry’s pieces are thoughtfully and ethically crafted and we’ve been decorating with their pieces for years now. We added their 8×10 Mahika Area Rug in O’s room and it really opens the space up. It is so soft too! I love that this rug has an earthy print to it, but the print is not too bold. Its still soft and neutral with rich texture. It has shed a bit since we first set it up, but that’s slowing down now. Organizing Smaller Toys with Baskets

One of my biggest design tips, especially when it comes to kids’ rooms is to use baskets! Love, love, love baskets. The Citizenry has some amazing deep woven baskets with handles that are perfect for housing stuffed animals, and some bigger toys like trucks and planes in your kids rooms. Their Bolga Baskets are my favorite. For smaller toys and books, my go-to is Gathre’s Caddy. They have a top handle that make it easy for kids to move around and look beautiful on a shelf too. We use these to house all of O’s little figures. If you’re looking for realistic toys that show various occupations, check these out. I’m not usually one for plastic toys, but I was very impressed with the quality.
