This year’s Halloween costumes might be our all-time favorites. We’ve been talking about dressing up as different musicians for years. Before Oliver, we always thought John & Yoko would be a great one, but we just never committed to it. This year, we thought it would be perfect to replicate the look of one of our favorite musicians ever, Bob Dylan. He is an absolute icon, and we had the best time creating looks from different parts of his career. Oliver’s hair was that perfect, early Bob Dylan length, so we loved putting his look together, and hope he looks back and thinks his parents did it justice.

Oliver’s Look – Debut Album: 1962

In 1962, Bob Dylan was fresh faced, new to the New York folk scene with a lot to prove. He “got a harmonica job, begun to play/Blowin’ my lungs out for a dollar a day.” His debut album cover is iconic with his newsboy cap, coat, and guitar. It’s a simple and perfect intro to a musician who has always done things his own unique way.

Christina’s Look – Blonde on Blonde Era: 1966

Our favorite era of Bob Dylan is definitely his string of electric albums from 1965-66. Super controversial at the time, but have aged wonderfully. Blonde on Blonde was probably our most listened to album back when we were dating in 2004. We used to shout the lyrics to “Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat” while driving around town. So much fun! Bob Dylan was at his absolute coolest during this time, and I LOVED getting into character with a bit of that classic Dylan attitude.

Robert’s Look – Rolling Thunder Revue: 1975-76

In the early 1970’s, Bob Dylan started to fade away a bit. His run of perfect albums came to an end, and his work lacked that punch that he packed into the 60’s. In the mid 70’s though, he got a bit of his groove back. He delivered one of his all-time best works in Blood on the Tracks, and in 1975-76 embarked on his iconic tour, The Rolling Thunder Revue. It was his most creative endeavor in a decade. His white face paint and flower adorned hat made the look so cool. Netflix recently released a documentary on the tour directed by Martin Scorsese. Definitely check that out.
