Meticulous and detail oriented but silly and curious. Persistent and determined, yet gentle and sweet. These are the words that come to mind when we think of Oliver. It’s amazing how much personality is packed into a fun loving one year old. Oliver has taught us how to truly play, laugh and have fun. Many nights Rob and I reflect on the day we just had…the highs and the lows, but mostly all the little victories.
Oliver is helping us become more conscious parents, focusing on eco-friendly practices starting from when I was pregnant, and teaching us how to live the slow life. Everything we bring into our home has a purpose and each purchase is carefully thought out considering the company it is coming from, especially in the baby department. This year we’re teaming up with Seventh Generation to share about their mission to transform the world into a healthy, sustainable, and equitable place for the next generation.
We, as many other parents, never thought our first year of parenthood would look like this: a global pandemic, an intense election right around the corner, an equal rights movement, a climate crisis. There’s been so many moments where we just feel like the world is broken. The last several months have been a wake up call for so many people. We’re all feeling the intensity, a greater pull to the earth, and know that future generations can’t go on like this.
We’re raising a planet lover, a people lover, a peace advocate. Before we know it our little guy won’t be so little anymore and although he won’t remember every little moment (that we hold so dearly), these moments will be shaping who he becomes. We’re constantly trying to instill good habits and set a good example. Watching Oliver put things in the recycling bin and hearing him say “dank-ew” (thank you) as of the last few weeks have been some big highlights around here. As much as we’re guiding him and help him develop, he is shaping who we become more and more each day and that is truly something special.
Seventh Generation have redesigned their Sensitive Protection Diapers. They are the first and only diapers with USDA Certified Biobased 30% plus an absorbent core, made with FSC® Certified sustainably sourced fluff and 0% chlorine bleaching. It’s still super absorbent and fragrance-free, without all the unnecessary extras, which we really appreciate.
I often read Oliver the book Whoever You Are. The first time I read this book, I got really choked up. It’s such a beautiful way to share with children that no matter how different we may look from one another, how far we may live, what type of school we go to, or what language we speak, we all want love and to give love. Something we always want to teach Oliver is that he is part of a diverse community and that is something to be celebrated, always. I love the hashtag #RaisingtheNextGen Seventh Generation is sharing right now, celebrating the future world changers. It shows that we all share the same hope for our children.
