After a quick IG story a week or so ago where I expressed my distaste for this crazy summer heat and 117 degree days, I’m happy to report that we have not been alone in our summertime crankiness. This summer heat has been hitting everyone hard lately, ourselves very much included. The outdoors help us SO much with just having an overall happy outlook on things, and getting some fresh air really helps to motivate us, so these crazy temps have been doing some damage in more ways than one. After one particularly cranky morning Rob and I decided to create a summer bucket list with some date night ideas to get us out of the house and feeling refreshed. It might be weird to do this at the end of July, but it got us excited.
His: Polo | Chinos | Shoes / Hers: Sunglasses | Jumpsuit | Sneakers (Under $25!)
Before we dive into some date-night ideas, here’s a look at what we wore the other night before heading to Roland’s Market in town for dinner. We ordered some goodies from ASOS before heading to Chicago and found so many cute things for summer. Rob and I are both on the petite side when it comes to clothing, so European sizes and more narrow fits are usually what we look for, which can sometimes make ordering online tough. Thankfully ASOS has a variety of departments from petite to plus size (for men too) and even maternity…so there’s something for everyone. I couldn’t resist this petite jumpsuit (comes in regular too), paired with these espadrilles sneakers for a casual look. I wore them quite a bit while we were in Chicago.
Rob picked out white chinos and a navy polo, with brown loafers for our evening out, that felt so vintage to me. I loved how classic it looked and pieces like these will always be wardrobe staples, which we try to be conscious of when purchasing clothing, plus the shoes were under $50 which is always a major plus!
Here’s a few of our summer date night ideas:
GO TO A DRIVE-IN MOVIE
I’ve been researching some old drive-ins in Arizona and found one that I think would make for the most perfect date night. Maybe it’s all the Riverdale I’ve been watching lately (don’t judge!), but drive-ins feel so quintessential summer to me.
HAVE A PICNIC UP NORTH WITH HENRY
We recently got a new picnic basket, so there’s only one thing to do. 😉
SPEND THE DAY AT A HOTEL POOL
We definitely don’t take advantage of this as much as we should. There’s so many pretty hotels in Phoenix, so why not take the afternoon for a little staycation feeling?
MAKE ICE-POPS WITH FRESH FRUIT
This has been on the top of my list lately…what’s better than fresh fruit in the summer? Fresh fruit bars! I’ve been bookmarking so many recipes on Pinterest these days, so it feels like a nice way to keep the morning farmer’s market feeling going.
BRING A BOOK TO A COFFEE SHOP FOR THE AFTERNOON
So often we bring our computers and end up planning something for the house or a project or trip…just zoning out with a good book is much needed around here these days. Any book suggestions you guys have been loving?
PAINT + CREATE MUSIC AGAIN
Rob and I used to do this all the time when we lived back east and it was so calming.
GO TO THE SCIENCE CENTER
The Phoenix science center is right next to one of our favorite date night spots: Pizzeria Bianco, so this is a must!

Thanks for this inspiring post! We are stuck in the same rut, date-wise and family-wise with our two young girls. I am going to grab a pen and paper now and start making that summer Bucket list!
When I lived in AZ and needed a break I loved getting a beer flight at Angels and then walking over to Filmbar for a movie, particularly if Rocky Horror or R Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet singalong was playing!
Great ideas! This is our first summer in AZ and with two little ones it’s getting a little tough. We visit the Hotel Palomar pool often and that’s been great. Definitely want to visit the science center too!
That jumpsuit is amazing!! I grew up going to our local drive in theater every summer and I miss it so much!
Looking so adorable. beautiful couple. Love your ideas too.
