With the holidays rapidly approaching, (oh gosh, I don’t think I’m ready) I can’t help but think about entertaining and gathering with family. Getting spaces ready for out of town visitors is always on my mind this time of year, and the same thing rang true for my friend Megan. Megan needed a comfortable, yet functional space for her family to stay when visiting, but also an area to work from home. I was so excited to partner with Walmart to create a desert modern guest room and home office for her. Walmart’s fall home lookbook caught my eye with warm and inviting pieces, with Southwest prints and patterns.

The desk we chose was a simple and modern corner desk with shelving for storage. I liked that this desk wasn’t clunky but gave us the opportunity to store and display some of Megan’s favorite books and ceramics, while not taking up too much space. We also added a small Marshall bluetooth speaker (love this smaller similar radio here) so they can enjoy some favorite music while working, or guests can connect directly to their favorite playlist.
The desk chair was a play off of the faux leather headboard. We wanted the room to feel open and comfortable, so we kept things light and bright for the most part with a jute rug, woven lounge chair and light toned desk and console table. That little woven chair in the corner is one of my favorite pieces. Perfect for small spaces, but still adds some interest. We used a southwest inspired Kilim patterned pillow with soft blush tones to tie in with the bedding.
Eventually Megan and Dylan might add a TV over the console for guests, but right now it is adorned with some favorite artwork over head, books, candles and ceramics they’ve collected along the way. I gathered some of my favorite desert and home decor books for the space. Abode and Georgia O’Keeffe’s and Her Houses, are few among many that are available at Walmart. Of course I had to throw in one of my favorite vintage inspired fans for the space too, for those warmer evenings.
We had the side tables custom made by a friend and local woodworker. He was able to create these beautiful light wood side tables which mimicked the desk and console perfectly for a cohesive look. I love the little shelf for books as well.
You can’t see it too perfectly here, but we added a beautiful full length arched mirror. Can’t have a guest room without a full length mirror, right? (Check out our video tour for the full look.) I loved that this mirror was narrow enough to fit the space right between the door and closet, and also came with a collapsible stand option on the back, if you didn’t want to mount it like we did.
We opted for rattan hanging pendant lights above each side table and dropped them low for a cozier feel. I love how all the textures play off eachother. We mixed some linen bedding and used a single graphic accent pillow to complete it all.
What do you all think? We did this pretty quickly, within two weeks!

Beautiful! Can you please share where some of the non-Walmart pottery and decor is from? E.g., hat rack, side table decor. Thank you!
The rattan rack is actually from Walmart as well. Here’s a link: https://bit.ly/3jsM8xS![🙂](https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/svg/1f642.svg)
The pottery is mostly thrifted.
Can you share where the bed frame is from?
