We’re building a house! Yup you read that right. We’re building a house in Tucson, AZ. It’s been a while in the making now. We’ve hit a few bumps in the road along the way, and I know we will be hit with a few more as this project progresses, but it feels so good to finally share the news!
We purchased a lot back in the beginning of 2020. It was a little impulsive, but we just had a feeling. When we originally bought our Tudor home, life was so different. We were traveling a lot for work, we didn’t have a baby yet, and we were in a different head space: one that involved us always being on the move. It was exciting, unpredictable, and chaotic in the best adrenaline filled way possible. Now over five years later, priorities and life goals changing, a family of our own, and with a greater appreciation for the southwest in our hearts, building in the Tucson desert feels like a dream come true.
Like I said, this project has been in the works since January 2020 when we found a piece of land after searching on Zillow (for fun), something we found ourselves doing a lot over the last few years. We took a drive to Tucson one rainy afternoon with my sister and her boyfriend. Right as we pulled up to the lot, Oliver had fallen asleep, so my sister stayed in the car with Oliver as we quickly walked the land. We had seen a few lots before this one and none of them seemed to fit our vision for what would be next for our family. As we walked around taking in the views, while rain trickled down off our cheeks, we knew this place could be our home.
We quickly signed the papers, met with builders and architects, and then a few months later the pandemic hit. We weren’t really sure what we were going to do. We held onto the land as everything in the world felt so uncertain, and we were in no rush to move, so we waited. Over the last year we made the decision to move forward with the build, pick up where our dreams left off, and continue the conversations we were having with our amazing team for the build.
We are so excited to take you on this journey with us, and what a journey it has already been. We’ll be documenting the whole process, planning and decor choices, the actual build and of course the fully designed spaces as they take shape.
This project means a lot to us. Not only will it be a creative endeavor that we can truly pour our hearts into, it will be the home we build for our family, where we rest our heads, connect more with nature, and welcome those we love. It’s been so special connecting with you all for the last five years or so on the internet, sharing our life from newlyweds to traveling, design favorites and more. This next step doesn’t feel like the next chapter, it feels like a whole new book, and means a lot to be able to share this as a family with you all as well. More to come!
