July will mark two years since our move to Phoenix, AZ! Right now, at this point in our lives, we really couldn’t imagine ourselves living anywhere else. It has been such a great transition for us from NY, and we still enjoy soaking up every bit this city has to offer us. The quiet desert landscape has been so refreshing, yet still has a bit of city life we adore. We’re always on the hunt for new places to explore, coffee shops to try out, and places to bring friends visiting from out of town. It’s been such a treat for us to have friends and family visit and show them some of the popular places around town and some hidden gems as well.
With some exciting trips coming up in the next few months, we’ve been following along with Jessica and Krissy of Tastebuds Travel. They have a YouTube show presented by Ford, where they travel to different cities across America and give everyone the inside scoop on some must-see local spots. We were inspired by these lovely ladies to share some of our favorite local spots in Phoenix with all of you! So if you find yourself in Phoenix one day and are looking for some places to check out in between swooning over all the mountain views and desert landscape, here’s some places that rank pretty high on our list.
– LUX CENTRAL
Start off your morning in Central Phoenix by taking the light rail or biking to Lux Central. Grab a latte, green tea, or espresso shot…whatever it takes to lift those heavy eyelids and order yourself some breakfast. We usually like to keep things simple, grabbing a pastry or acai bowl with fresh fruit, but on the weekends we can’t resist their Farmer’s Market Scramble, with some bacon and hash browns on the side. At night Lux, has a full bar with some of the best bartenders around…friendly and creative with their spirits, they’ll mix you up a tasty and unique cocktail.
–MODERN MANOR
Next up, time for some thrifting! Eames, Harry Bertoia, Arne Jacobson…is your heart fluttering yet?! It’s no secret we have a weakness for mid-century style furniture and pieces from the past. Modern Manor is hands down our favorite place to go treasure hunting in Phoenix. They have furniture, dinnerware, and decor pieces dating back to the 1940’s. We have literally spent hours in here, figuring out if we had room for another sofa or chair in our apartment, because we fall in love with every piece. Their pieces are in beautiful condition and the guys who run the place are pretty nice too, which never hurts! If you have a bit of a furniture addiction, the way we do, follow along with them on instagram. They update often with new arrivals!
– PIZZERIA BIANCO + HERITAGE SQUARE
Voted the best pizza in Phoenix, Pizzeria Bianco will surely satisfy your pizza craving. Moving to Phoenix from NY, good pizza was something we were immediately on the hunt for. The thin crust and their charming patio with lights strung from above gets us every time. This is one of our favorite places to go on a date-night. If you don’t want to take our word for it, even Jimmy Fallon loves it. It’s located in Heritage Square, which has been around since the late 1800’s. The cobblestone streets and beautiful buildings will make you feel like you’ve stepped into the Victorian era.
Check out Tastebuds’ latest episode, presented by Ford, on their trip to Austin. This definitely got us in the mood to plan a trip to a new city! We’d love to hear about some favorite places in your own home towns. Share them with us in the comments!
