Weekend Uniform

Not gonna lie, on the weekends we’re pretty bad about getting up and at ’em. We often run around like a couple of chickens with our heads cut off during the week, so our weekends are our time to enjoy our house, cook together, and relax. However, one thing we noticed that helps get our day started is getting up and getting dressed right away. This usually motivates us to get the day started, whether it be running to the grocery store or just feeling ready if we decide to catch a movie or join friends for lunch. READ MORE

Eyelet Details

New Darlings Style Blog French Girl Style Top Knot Lace Blouse
I’m sucker for anything with lace or eyelet detailing so when I saw this blouse from J.Crew, I thought it would be perfect for our trip to SF. I layered it with a classic trench for a day at the market, with some bold accessories.

July Book Round-Up with Audible

New Darlings - Skirt and tee combo - French Girl Style

Sézane t-shirt and skirt (similar) | Gucci bag | Ray-Ban sunglasses | Moorea Seal necklace | Madewell sandals

Happy Wednesday! We’re back with another monthly book round up with Audible. Around this time of year I’m almost always brought back to the required summer reading lists we had as kids in school. From what I hear they are not too prevalent nowadays, but we’d have a few books to pick from and I’d head to the bookstore with my mom and sisters. I can remember walking into the cool air conditioned store and the kids’ story corners adorned with the most brightly colored books. I always was excited, even if the required books wouldn’t have been my first pick. I was the type of kid who loved new school supplies and even cried when I had to stay home from school because I was sick, (I’m talking grade school here) but that could be a story for a whole other post. Ha! Summer reading brings back memories of hanging by the town pool with my family, eating sandwiches and snacks we packed that morning before leaving the house, and laying under the umbrella with a mystery story or suspenseful book of some sort. Retro Vibes in Palm Springs

Every now and then I get sucked back into my obsession with the sixties. My old dorm room was plastered with photos of The Beatles…particularly George Harrison and Pattie Boyd, Paul McCartney and Jane Asher. And of course, there were my favorite black and white images of Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsberg. The straighter hair, thick fringes, and mini skirts always seemed so fun and care free to me. Palm Springs oozes with that same style and spirit. Everytime we visit I can’t help but think about how it was a hideaway for movie stars “back in the day” and what their summer style was like. My Growing Obsession with Culottes

Spring and Summer Fashion - New Darlings Style Blog - 1 Pair of Pants 3 WaysCulottes are definitely not the new kid on the block, but for some reason I can’t get enough of them lately. Maybe it’s because they’re so versatile or maybe it’s because they’re the perfect alternative for when you don’t want to wear shorts in the summer (I’m not the biggest fan of shorts — anyone else with me?), plus they’re airy too. Either way, I’ve been mixing and matching them with everything these days. Last week we hosted a happy hour with some friends at North Italia here in town. Here’s a look at what I wore… READ MORE

Dresses with Balance

You know that old style rule, if you’re outfit is a little more revealing on top then cover up on the bottom? It’s one of the few style rules I follow. Okay, that sounds like I’m trying to say I’m some sort of rebel or something, but really…it makes a lot sense and this summer all I want to wear are maxi dresses, so it’s fun to mix things up with various necklines and accents. It took me so long to get into maxi styles (no pun intended) because as someone who is on the shorter side, I thought they just looked strange on me, but they are so comfortable and airy for these crazy temperatures! They’re all I’m reaching for lately. READ MORE

Put a bow on it!

It’s been a while since we’ve shared an outfit post. With all the crazy time changes and climate changes, I haven’t really thought about style for Arizona this season too much. I’m not fully ready to dive into shorts and tank tops, despite what the triple digits over here are telling me to do, so I think think this comfy blush and beige look will have to suffice. 😉 We snapped some photos on our way out of our friend’s flower shop the other day, because really, the set up at Camelback Flowershop is always too beautiful not to photograph. (We brought home some great plants for the living room! Can’t wait to share the space with you guys!)

Some New Favorites with Nordstrom Rack

His: The Kooples shirt | Topman jeans | Aldo shoes (similar here) | Coach watch
Hers: Kate Spade dress, watch, and sunglasses (similar here and here) | Steve Madden shoes (similar here)

We are huge advocates for affordable style.  We’ve always believed that dressing well has more to do with fit, quality, and versatility than just picking the “best” brand off the rack and throwing it on.  Every year around this time, we try to add pieces that can be worn in different ways, as layers, or accessories that work for any occasion.  Mixing high and low. It’s definitely more strategic than it looks.  Picking out neutrals, timeless patterns, and comfortable shoes are very important to us.  Nordstrom Rack is definitely not a new kid on the block, but we’re late to the game with discovering just how great the deals are. We often have trouble justifying an expensive watch or bag, so it’s been great to add some new pieces to our wardrobe without feeling guilty. 😉 Here are a few favorites for him and her we’re currently loving…

Formal Nights with Princess Cruises

We’re definitely guilty of indulging in a pajama day on the weekends or opting for a cozy night in, but there’s something to be said about how you feel when you dress up and pull yourself together. Like many we were completely obsessed with Mad Men, and part of the reason why we tuned in each week, aside from how incredibly bad ass Donald Draper was, had to do with the focus on fashion. Dates, parties, baseball games, even flying on plane…people used to simply dress up more for the occasion. READ MORE
