Weekend Links: 28

| By New Darlings

Reformation bathing suit (love this one and this one too!)

We had such a fun week! It’s been so exciting to plan out everything that’s happening with the Casita and surrounding landscaping in our backyard.  We’ve been working closely with our contractor to make a space that is functional and purposeful and they’re almost ready to begin working on it.  We can’t wait to share that process!  This week we saw Ingrid Goes West at our local Alamo Drafthouse and War for the Planet of the Apes with our pals Leah & Matt and Brendan, so it’s definitely safe to say we had a good week.  I can’t remember the last time we saw two movies in one week. Thursday we worked on a really fun project for Darling Magazine with our friends Fawn DeViney and Priscilla Urrutia. It will be coming this fall and we will keep you up to date with all those details. Arizona has some pretty talented folks and it was really special getting to work together with them on such an intimate project. We’re really excited about seeing it all come together.  Next week we’ll be heading out of town to some much cooler weather and this weekend we’ll be getting things ready for that trip.  Here’s to another good one! Below we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite links from around the web, as well as some favorite items we’ve been eyeing lately.  Enjoy!

Creating an Entryway When You Don’t Have One

Creating a Faux Entryway When You Don't Have One

Ahh, the entryway…where you kick off your shoes, throw down you keys and mail and leave the day behind you before stepping fully into your home. Some floorplans don’t necessarily have one, and our house was one of those floorplans. Our little 1930’s Tudor is cute, but when you first walk into our home, you immediately step into the living room.  Not exactly ideal for creating a nice flow or keeping odd corners tidy. As we mentioned in our living room reveal post the other day, the room is a large rectangular shape opening up to the dining room and kitchen. We didn’t realize it at first, but not having a defined entryway/foyer made placing furniture a little tough. We wanted to make sure that whatever we put in this area had purpose and character. To do so, we decided to divide the room into two sections and create a clear living/conversation area and a faux entryway.Read More

July Book Round-Up with Audible

| By New Darlings

New Darlings - Skirt and tee combo - French Girl Style

Sézane t-shirt and skirt (similar) | Gucci bag | Ray-Ban sunglasses | Moorea Seal necklace | Madewell sandals

Happy Wednesday! We’re back with another monthly book round up with Audible. Around this time of year I’m almost always brought back to the required summer reading lists we had as kids in school. From what I hear they are not too prevalent nowadays, but we’d have a few books to pick from and I’d head to the bookstore with my mom and sisters. I can remember walking into the cool air conditioned store and the kids’ story corners adorned with the most brightly colored books. I always was excited, even if the required books wouldn’t have been my first pick. I was the type of kid who loved new school supplies and even cried when I had to stay home from school because I was sick, (I’m talking grade school here) but that could be a story for a whole other post. Ha! Summer reading brings back memories of hanging by the town pool with my family, eating sandwiches and snacks we packed that morning before leaving the house, and laying under the umbrella with a mystery story or suspenseful book of some sort.Read More

Retro Vibes in Palm Springs

New Darlings - French Retro Style New DarlingsSézane dress (similar here) | Gucci loafers (similar here and here) | Ray-ban sunglasses (similar) | vintage straw bag from Vida Moulin (similar here and here) | e.l.f. lipstick in “Velvet Rope”

Every now and then I get sucked back into my obsession with the sixties. My old dorm room was plastered with photos of The Beatles…particularly George Harrison and Pattie Boyd, Paul McCartney and Jane Asher. And of course, there were my favorite black and white images of Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsberg. The straighter hair, thick fringes, and mini skirts always seemed so fun and care free to me. Palm Springs oozes with that same style and spirit. Everytime we visit I can’t help but think about how it was a hideaway for movie stars “back in the day” and what their summer style was like.Read More

Blue Velvet Sofa Schoolhouse Plaid Chairs

Excited isn’t even the word to describe the feeling we have to finally share this room.  It was the first room we tackled back when we first moved into this house in November ’16.  Why did it take us eight months to finally reveal it properly?  Well…let us tell you.Read More
