In the two years we have lived in Phoenix, it feels like it is constantly evolving. New places are popping up all over the place and the best thing about it…they are good! Back in April, Desoto Central Market opened it’s doors and we find ourselves there quite often. They have a little bit of everything, so it doesn’t ever matter what time of day it is…we always find something!
Our go-to is usually some Tea & Toast and then a little outdoor time on their awesome patio. Yay for November in Phoenix!
A few weeks ago we tried out the French Grocery in Phoenix. We have been meaning to go for quite some time now and are so happy we finally did! It’s a family owned grocery/cafe with everything from wines and cheeses to the sweetest desserts and lattes. We went in the evening and snacked on some macarons, which had to have been the best macarons we’ve tried in Arizona yet! If you stop in, we definitely recommend the orange-creamsicle and espresso flavors. So good! We couldn’t resist taking a few home with us. 😉
This day, as many of the days in AZ have been lately, was pretty muggy and humid. We’d like to think we’re not alone when we say, we’re ready for summer to be over. Hello fall, where are you?! Anyone else ready for thermals, cozy sweaters, and boots? It probably doesn’t help that we already want to start listening to Christmas music. I know, I know…it’s still only August. Haha.
We both come from families who love to cook. With Cuban and Sicilian heritage, a lot of our family gatherings revolve around food. Since being married, we have both taken recipes that have been passed down to us and incorporated them into our weekly dinner routines. Every now and then, it’s fun to mix things up and try something new from a cookbook. For us, dinner is always a special time where we can “unplug” from social media, television, and stressors of the day. With daily schedules that change often, it’s not always easy to find the time to cook a healthy meal, but it’s definitely something we try to make a priority. Here are some of our favorite cookbooks that can be found on our shelves and in our cupboards.
On Sunday we met up with our friends, Cheyanne and Diamond for brunch at St. Francis. Our list of favorite local spots in Phoenix, just keeps growing! It was our first time visiting St. Francis, but the restaurant is owned by Chef Aaron Chamberlin, who also owns Phoenix Public Market(which we’re big fans of), so we knew we were in for a treat!
Usually Sundays are our days to “get everything done”…run our errands, do laundry, and get things in order for the week ahead. So, it was refreshing to catch up with friends over some tasty, local food in a beautiful space. The restaurant was built in 1955 by architect Harold Ekman, and later transformed by Wendell Burnette. We loved the mix of old charm and modern accents; just think exposed brick and lots of natural light shining in while you enjoy a spread of flatbreads, fingerling potatoes, and an array of eggs cooked three different ways. We were definitely indulging, but I guess that’s what the weekends are for, right?! 😉
Thank you so much to Chef Aaron Chamberlin for the warm hospitality and amazing brunch. We’re already thinking about our next visit!
If you follow along with us oninstagram or snapchat, you’ve probably seen we just moved in to a new apartment! Slowly but surely, we’re getting settled in to our new place and are getting acquainted with the neighborhood. The last two weeks have been a little chaotic, so yesterday it was nice to get out and just have a coffee date. We threw on some favorite new threads from Bridge & Burn and out the door we went!
One of the things we love most about Phoenix is the abundance of coffee & tea shops. When we moved out of New York, everyone joked…”good luck finding good coffee…good bagels…good chinese food”. The list goes on! But there are so many great locally owned shops here and we can’t seem to get enough of them!
Yesterday we tried out Songbird Coffee & Tea House for the first time. The cute little yard in the front is so charming and the bright green accents really drew us in. We were pleasantly surprised with their abundant tea list, (which you don’t see too often) as most places only cater to coffee. Our drinks of choice were: jasmine green tea and a classic latte. Afterward, we walked around town a bit, as it was surprisingly comfortable out for summer in Phoenix. It was a pretty sweet little afternoon.
We had so much fun over the weekend! We’re finally getting settled back in after our trip to New York and getting some things ready for our move. We’re only moving across town, so it’s not as stressful as when we made the move from NY to AZ two summers ago, but we definitely have a lot more to pack up this time!
It was so nice to have the whole afternoon to ourselves and visit one of our favorite spots for lunch, Phoenix Public Market. When we are home, we are always finding projects to work on or things we need to do. These lunch dates are our favorite way to de-stress and have conversations about all the fun things we want to do in the upcoming months.
Hope everyone is having a great summer so far and staying cool in this heat! 🙂
Last Saturday we had the pleasure of meeting up with our friend, Vince, at one of our favorite coffee shops, Lux. It was the perfect way to kick off the weekend, talking about life and sharing our creative directions. We spoke about photography, blogging and future endeavors. Its always a treat chatting with friends about things like this and always leaves us feeling deeply inspired. We feel pretty lucky to have found people who share common goals and passions, and who can influence each other creatively. Oh, and who also share a love for chambray shirts! Very important! We can’t forget that! 😉
We’ve been waiting to share these photos for a while now. About a month or so ago, our friend Kristine asked us if we would like to help her out with a project for Royal Coffee Bar and of course we accepted! Even though we’ve been living in AZ for two years now, we’re still discovering new places and embracing recommendations from friends. The Royal Coffee Bar & Roasting Company has been one of them. The coffee culture in AZ is something that is growing rapidly and we’ve been lucky enough to become friends with some talented baristas. Royal Coffee has four different locations in the valley, each a bit different and unique in design. It’s been fun to discover all these new places together and have somewhere you know you’ll be sure to run into some friends, who will also happen to make you a perfect latte. Definitely a plus! 🙂
Chicken and doughnuts; not a combo we would initially crave together, but the other day we tried out this new place in Phoenix and we are now hooked! The owners of the Welcome Diner, opened up Welcome Chicken + Donutsnot too long ago, and since we are such big fans of the Welcome Diner (If you are in Phoenix, you need to go! Amazing burgers!) we figured we needed to see what this place as all about. The place has an old school vibe, with some fun oldies playing over the speakers, which is perfect for munching on some afternoon snacks. We got the Korean Chili chicken with an array of doughnuts to try out. The Korean Chili flavor isn’t something we would normally choose, but we were told it was their most popular and it was definitely the right choice! Crunchy with a little kick and then add in the doughnuts! We were in heaven. Who doesn’t love an afternoon date with their love…and doughnuts?!
We are Robert and Christina: husband and wife, photo takers, adventurers and best friends. We like to laugh too hard, dance all night, and explore together. Here is a little glimpse into our lives in sunny Phoenix, Arizona.
