How Your Coffee is Making an Impact

Sweet Family Moments and Coffee
There’s something really incredible about seeing where things come from, how they are made and how a company is making an impact. In 2017 we had the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica with the Nespresso team and learn about how farmers are revitalizing their farms to be more sustainable. It was incredible to not only learn about their coffee farming initiatives, but to actually be invited into the farmers’ homes, explore their farms, and learn about some of the rarest coffees straight from the experts themselves. It was a very special experience.

Nespresso just shared new additions to the Reviving Origins collection. My new favorite from the collection is the Puerto Rico: an intense, creamy espresso. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say, taking care of a toddler and running a business requires A LOT of caffeine. 😉 How many cups a day do you all have?

My caffeine intake has definitely increased since becoming a mom, but I don’t mind. Give me all the espresso! The rich taste gives me a little “me moment” with each sip, while I play (and chase) Ollie all over the house. The under eye bags will just be a memento of these wild and energetic years together…watching him grow, pull around his luggy basket from the kitchen to the living room and back to the kitchen again…the excitement and joy he has when simply playing with a dish scrub brush…it’s amazing. I know these moments are fleeting, so I try to soak it all in. Any moment we share together, I cherish, because truly family is everything.
After diving more into what Nespresso is doing with their Reviving Origins program, I’m reminded of those families we met years ago in Costa Rica. The direct impact that coffee has on families that may look similar to our own, miles and miles away, is so special. Whether it’s donating trees in Puerto Rico, building wet mills in Uganda or providing farmers technical training and access to agronomists, these actions are helping improve the lives of so many farmers and their communities. Improving access to clean water, and opening new clinics to provide healthcare services for over 80,000 people in eastern DRC, including farming families and their communities are just a few of the ways Nespresso is making an impact and it’s just another reason to savor each flavorful sip.

      1. Hi Sara, Yes! Like I mentioned to the other commenter… Nespresso offers pre-paid recycling bags so people can mail back used capsules to be recycled. Their recycling program is pretty easy and gives us peace of mind since we know that the capsules are going to be recycled and not go to landfill. We actually visited one of their recycling centers a few years back in Switzerland. It was amazing to see the process first hand. Hope that helps a bit. You could also check out our post about Nespresso from when we visited their coffee farms in Costa Rica years back. You can read the post here: Costa Rica with Nespresso
