The Disney Spell

Jul 09, 2018 | By Robert

We’ve never been huge Disney people. You know those people who know when all the new rides are opening and those friends who can sing their way through any Disney classic? Those people are some of our friends and we love them, but we were just never those people. Yes, we love Disney and sure you’ll probably catch us at the movies checking out the newest Pixar movie, but we would never call ourselves fanatics. Neither of us have Peter Pan tattoos and we get lost quite a bit when we visit the Disney parks (that’s the official criteria of a Disney fanatic, correct?), but guys, we finally get the hype. We figured it out!

We recently spent a few days in Disney World with our family on the east coast and it all clicked. Maybe it was because we were with our nephews and we were seeing Disney through the eyes of a child again, but it all started to make sense. Personally, we find it extremely difficult to shut off our work brains. We talked about it a little bit in this post, but because we share so much of our personal lives, travels and marriage on here, our work world and personal world often overlap. While we were navigating our way through the Magic Kingdom in our Mickey shirts, and screaming our heads off as we rode Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, it occurred to us that we had entered a world where you can wear mouse ears, eat churros every hour, take goofy photos ;), and like we mentioned, scream as loud as we can on every ride and it’s completely normal. It hit us like a ton of bricks. It was like a big a-ha moment. It’s so obvious, but I guess we just never fully jumped into it like we did this time around. Disney is like one big therapy session. Do you know how good it feels to just let out a scream? Ha! It feels amazing. Try doing it with mouse ears on… even better!

We had an amazing time with our family, eating all the Mickey shaped food we could get our hands on, laughing at our the photos they took of us on the rides, and just letting go of reality for just a little bit. That’s what Disney is all about, right? It’s a real shame it took us this long to fully understand, but we see many trips in our future to just dress up like a character for a few days, blow off some steam, and just be silly together. Oh man, so fun! Anyway, are you guys Disney people? What’s your favorite Disney movie or park or ride? We’d love to hear! The new Pandora World really blew our minds!

  1. I went to the Disney World with my husband at the same time the two of you went. We can’t wait to go back. I’m glad the two of you had fun. I love the photos.

  2. Never thought about it as therapy before, but that’s a great perspective! My husband & I have been Disney fanatics for a long time in different ways, there is something for everyone at the happiest place on earth!

  3. So true! I feel like Disney is a place of fun & just to be a kid again! + My favorite ride will have to be the tea cups, you guys should totally check out Disneyland here in the west coast! 💛

  4. Looks like y’all had fun! Did you snap these photos with your iPhone or did you bring your big camera in? I was wondering if it’s worth the hassle.

  5. I’m so happy I’m not the only one who wears a poncho on the water rides! hehe. My husband and I went in April for my 30th and this makes me want to go back! I think you guys would love the Boardwalk if you haven’t stayed there yet. It feels vintage and is quiet/grown up and peaceful. Plus the bakery on the pier is always in walking distance, and there’s a back entrance to Epcot near France. woot! I’m so happy you guys got some vacay time 🙂

  6. Haha! Yay! I think because I’m an illustrator, I’ve always been a bit of a Disney fanatic. I’m one of those people who knows every word to every song. I love dressing up pay tribute to a character. And I love visiting theme parks in February, my birthday month, because there aren’t crowds! 🙌🏻
