So much has changed over the 14 years we’ve been together, but there are a few things that remain constant in our relationship and I’m glad we’ve been able to stick with those “couples bonding activities”, just the two of us, after all these years. There are certain things that have been staples in our relationship since the beginning, like making sure we always have a movie/tv show binge night together with take out, or grabbing a mid-day treat and coffee together. Recently, we’ve added mani/pedis (yes!!) and hitting the gym together to that list.
We definitely love hanging out with friends and enjoy family get togethers, but having those special “us” moments and activities to look forward to together, makes the busy weeks much more fun and gives us a chance to laugh and chat together with no interruptions or outside stressors. It’s also been a great way to strengthen our family life and bond together, even if it’s just the two of us. I always remember something an old co-worked told me before getting married…”When you get married, you start a new family. Your parents and siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles will always be your family, but your emotional connection with your partner will grow stronger than anything you’ve ever known.” Putting each other first every day and finding new ways to have fun together has been so rewarding.
This morning we woke up around 6, took Henry for his walk (he’s made such huge improvements!) and then headed to the gym. We’ve been doing BBG together and it’s been so challenging but fun! I was super inspired after seeing so many people’s transformations on Instagram and then Rob decided to ditch the treadmill and join in too. (We still hit the treadmill for a warm up.) We can’t help but laugh doing synchronized squats like a couple of Oompa Loompas. 😉 I feel like marriage is worth celebrating, in any way shape or form, and these gym dates have been a fun way to mix things up.
Looking at these photos we snapped a few months back in our living room is making us a crave a movie night, cuddled up on the couch. Just a few more months till we’re back in our house!
What about you guys? Any special things you make a point of doing with your significant other or best friend?
