Our Parisian Backyard Makeover with eBay

Apr 23, 2018 | By Christina

Our little home has seen a lot of changes over the last year, and our backyard is no exception. Some of our greatest childhood memories of summer approaching are our parents getting the backyard ready for family get togethers, pool parties, sprucing up the flowerbeds and planting vegetables. Our backyard has seen quite the transformation over the last several months. You might remember our patio reveal post from last summer. This is when we did a great deal of the work, pulling out plants, painting, adding a cohesive patio floor material (i.e. all brick, vs brick and pavers and cement blocks), adding in some permanent plants with landscape design and so on. Since then, we’ve had a chance to really live in the space and think a little more closely about how we use the backyard, and particularly the little patio area off of our (now) guesthouse.

When eBay reached out about working together on a backyard project, we immediately knew we wanted to spruce up the area off the guesthouse. Since transforming our garage into a guesthouse (stay tuned for the reveal), we knew we really wanted that little patio to be an outdoor oasis, a secret garden of sorts for our friends and family staying with us. Since going to Paris last March, we have been completely obsessed with all things Parisian. Some of our favorite times in Paris were sitting at the cafés for several hours in the afternoon, sipping on espresso, with a sweet treat in one hand and book in the other. We thought, why not create our own little slice of Paris here in Phoenix? eBay was the perfect partner for this transformation, with so many unique items to help us achieve our vision.

We spent a few days on eBay finding the perfect pieces for our Parisian inspired patio. There was SO much to choose from, we were seriously blown away. Vintage marble tables, cute woven bistro chairs, plants, yes plants (more on that in a minute)…the mix of new and vintage had our hearts swooning and was exactly what we needed to give this space the charm and functionality we were looking for.

We started with the furniture and the quintessential round marble bistro table you see gracing every Parisian café patio. eBay had quite a few to choose from. I fell in love with a larger marble table, and was seriously considering driving to California to pick it up and bring back home for another area of our yard, but we landed on a simple round Carrara marble table with an iron base. Texture was super important to us here, so we paired it with some woven bistro chairs and a teak wood bench/love seat.

We wanted our accent color to be pink, so we dressed up the teak bench with some outdoor pillows and a vintage linen throw with fun tassels. (Similar here)

Plants! We wanted a lot of greenery in the back. You might have noticed since our last patio design, we painted the fence white. Love the airiness this added to the space and it really made all the plants pop! We added some hanging planter and filled with them with some leafy favorites.

The brass bar cart is more for indoor use, but thankfully Phoenix doesn’t get hit with much rain until monsoon season, and so far she is holding up quite well! I love the elegance it brings to the space and is so practical for drinks or a few snacks.

We went crazy and found the most beautiful vintage pink glassware sets from France. I literally got giddy when these arrived in the mail, texting photos of them to my mom and sister. They’re a sweet reminder of years past and I’ve always been a fan of mixing new and old. It makes everything feel a little more special. We added some simple white linens with a pop of blue. I love the way it looks with the little teal bowl as well.

Can’t forget about those pretty little lanterns. There’s a ton of these on eBay, with many sellers making them available in bulk for weddings or parties. I’m tempted to purchase some taller ones to sprinkle around the rest of the yard. I think all of them lit up at night would look so magical.

Hello chiminea! My parents had one of these in our house back east, which I always loved the idea of, but never the style. They had one that was a red clay material, which is what I see most of the time and as much as I wanted one for the space, it just didn’t seem like the right fit. In came this simple black metal one that really seemed to fit the look we were going for and complimented the black trim on the guesthouse perfectly. Can’t wait to light a fire in the evenings now!

Also, more plants guys! To create some height we stacked some terra-cotta pots and mixed in some Arizona friendly plants to keep things looking fresh year round. We were seriously so impressed with the live plant selection eBay had (we had no idea) and how well they were packaged too. So many of these arrived while we were out of town, but the seller packaged them so beautifully they were in perfect shape when we opened them.

Well there ya have it guys, our Parisian inspired patio. We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. We spent much of the weekend out here, snacking and reading. Now we can’t wait to share it with some out of town guests! 🙂

  1. I have the exact same bench and was looking at different ideas to add a bit of cozy to it! The pink pillows are great! Looks beautiful.

  2. I just love love love what you guys did. I’m seriously inspired for my own space. How big is your bistro table? It looks maybe 20” but it’s hard to tell. Keep all the good stuff comin! 😙
