Our Dining Room: The Reveal

Sep 20, 2017 | By New Darlings

Our dining room hasn’t been a big secret…this isn’t a huge reveal and we’ve shared bits and pieces on Instagram, but we thought it was about time to formally introduce the small space and our mindset while putting the room together. So without further ado, here’s our cozy little dining room.

Woah! Remember this post that went live two weeks after moving into our house? Yeah, this room has come a long way! First things first, this table! I think we went through several tables before we found one we liked for the room. It’s really true what they say, don’t try to do everything at once — it’s very hard to make it work, at least it was for us. It wasn’t until the kitchen took shape, and then the living room, that this room began to come together and this walnut table played off the living room quite well and adds some warmth. We’re all about the natural wood tones. We anchored it with a faux area rug by Loloi. The irregular shape really helps in a room with a smaller footprint.

The dining room is on the smaller side, so we wanted to be mindful of what we added to the space. Seeing as there wasn’t room for a credenza/buffet, we made use of the corners of the room, adding in floating shelves. We followed suit with the kitchen remodel, and used butcher block counter tops from IKEA and cut them down to size. To anchor them, we used these hidden brackets via Etsy.

We added mismatched chairs (style 1 and 2) from Rejuvenation, for a little personality. We love the vintage feel it gives the room. We’re thinking about adding a few others to the heads of the table as well.

A lot of the accent pieces in the room are vintage finds, like these brass candle sticks. We found them during our last trip to Palm Springs and love the marble accent on the front one.

The archways in this house make us so happy. They’re original to the 1930s architecture and add so much character to the space. We mentioned it a while back, but this house totally changed our minds on an open concept. We now love coming to gather in this room each night for dinner. It feels so cozy.

One of our favorite pieces in the room has to be this chandelier from Schoolhouse. It gives the space an industrial feel and we love the exposed bulbs. You could see some art prints peeking through in the back too. The leaf prints (which can be found here), have lived all over the house…our bedroom, the living room, and now I think they’ve found their home here in the dining room. The piece on the right we found at an antique shop here in Phoenix. Whatever isn’t vintage or from local shops in this room can mostly be found at Schoolhouse or Rejuvenation. They have that classic Americana style, that feels a little vintage, yet modern and it was the perfect match for the direction we wanted to go in this house.

Midcentury Planter  (Similar here and here, love this brass one too!)

We already hosted a few small get-togethers here and are so thankful for the space. It just feels right for us, and with everything being open to the living room, it has a nice cohesive flow. Now, on to the rest of the house! 🙂

  1. I recently just moved to LA from a little town in New England. It’s been a huge culture shock, but in a good way! I am renting an apartment that my husband and I stumbled upon, and we love it – it’s bright and open! I’ve been following you guys for a while now, and you’ve inspired many of my decor choices – thank you! I SO appreciate all the links to things (including less expensive versions). The one thing I’m having trouble with is where to put things that can be an eyesore, like kitchen garbage cans and recycling, tissue boxes, dirty laundry, internet routers/cords… I’d love to see how you guys manage those kinds of things!

  2. Looks amazing!! I love the added greenery throughout the room, and the color of the wood is perfection! Well done! You guys should be interior designers!

    1. I’m honestly not sure…just picked a random bunch from Trader Joes. 🙂 Sorry I couldn’t be of more help. They always have nice flowers at a great price though. xo

  3. Love this! I love all the plants throughout y’alls house and the wood decor against the white walls. The molding on the windows adds so much character; this is perfect! c:
