Our Home: Update

To say we’ve been living in this house for eight months really blows our minds. It felt like the home buying process took foreverrr, and then shortly after we moved in we quickly celebrated the holidays and then had a bunch of travel lined up. Just recently this house has begun to feel more like our home. From Sunday morning plant watering rituals and weekday dinners at home to the basket filled corner with Henry’s toys and shelves covered in books, we have our space and our routine and nothing has felt sweeter. It’s been quite a bit since we’ve done a formal update on our house. We’ve shared our renovation process for our kitchen and both bathrooms (master | hallway), as well as the plan for our soon-to-be casita, but as each room begins to take shape, we thought we’d share a little about the rest of the house and where we’re at right now.

OUR LIVING ROOM:
Man, it’s been a process!  We’ve started and restarted this room more than we can even begin to explain.  The layout threw us for a loop and we initially came into this house really wanting to change things up with our style.  We loved our old apartment and each piece of furniture fit that space so perfectly (at least we thought so), but we felt like it was really time for a change in scenery.  When we moved into our house back in November, we had a real clean minimal Scandinavian vibe in mind. We thought we would go full on black, whites and grays with little-to-no accent colors.  We didn’t want to use plants in our design as we thought we’d “been there, done that!” and we certainly tried that look for a bit, but truthfully it just never felt right.  It took a few trips out of the country and some really eclectic airbnb’s to remind us that we still love being surrounded by greenery and pops of color make us happy.  Furniture has been moved around several times, some vintage favorites now have a permanent home here, and we can’t wait to share it with you guys. The reveal is just around the corner, so stayed tuned.

OUR DINING ROOM:
Just like our living room, this space has seen it’s fair share of change.  The room isn’t very large, so the table is the main focal point.  It took us longer than we would’ve liked to find “the one”, and who knows when another one will catch our eye (the furniture addiction is reallll), but we love the current state of the room and it’s feeling a lot more homey.  We shared a peek of it on Instagram recently and we are just working on the details now.

OUR WORK SPACE:
This room has been a fun one! Our friend Josh Rhodes is simply one of the most talented people we’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting and we are really excited to be partnering with him on our little-at-home office space.  More times than not we ended up working at our dining table just due to the convenience of sitting next to each other and bouncing ideas off one another. This wasn’t super ideal as anyone who works from home could imagine, because we would go from breakfast, to working, to lunch, back to working, and then to dinner all at the same table.  Josh saved the day when he designed and built a custom table for two on wheels for our work space.  Again, we don’t want to share too much as we love a good reveal, but we are obsessed with the desk he created for us and the rest of the space will be coming to the blog in August.  Keep an eye out for it!

We’ve been saying this a lot around here lately, but it’s our Sunday morning routine that has really made this place feel like home.  Maybe we have a case of the Mondays, but there’s nothing like Sunday morning. We get up really early against Henry’s wishes, and make breakfast with our favorite tunes on. A little 20’s jazz has been hitting the spot lately. We give the plants a good watering, sweep the outdoor spaces, and then get ready for our day.  This routine has made this place feel like our home and not just a house we bought from another family…although we’d be lying if we said we haven’t wondered about the families who have lived here before us and what they all were like…what filled their shelves and how they celebrated holidays. It’s been such an exciting process.  We’ve appreciated all the advice, support, and feedback as we’ve decorated, renovated, and stumbled our way through our first-time home buying and owning experience.  Home decor is one of our favorite things to share here.  We’re constantly thinking about it in the best way possible, getting inspiration from local restaurants, websites, and books, so its so nice to be able to have a place to journal the process. Thank you all so much for coming along for the ride.  We can’t wait to share so much more with you!

  1. I can’t wait! I would love to hear more about your wall gallery! I want every piece 🙂 I know the feeling of trying to find that perfect layout with that perfect piece. You have done an amazing job.

  2. I completely agree with Veronica – your gallery wall was done to perfection 🙂

I was wondering if you’d be willing to share what white paint color you used for your walls, trim, and ceiling? We’re getting ready to paint our first home and there are so many whites, it’s hard to pin down the perfect white!

  3. I am a huge fan of your fashion and home decor posts. Your space looks beautiful. I can’t take my eyes off your beautiful fiddle leaf tree in your workspace. I just got one for myself and was wondering to keep it in a corner in the west facing room. Do you think it will be too hot for my baby? Do let me know and also can’t wait for your updates
