Life Lately

May 25, 2017 | By New Darlings

After a vigorous month of travel and several different countries, we are finally home and slowly get back to our routine. When we were younger and dating, we would always talk about all the cities we wanted to visit, what we were going to do when we got married, and what kind of lives we would lead. Never in our wildest dreams did we think we would be able to travel as much as we do, and as fun and eye-opening it is to experience new places and cultures, there’s something really comforting about having a home base to return to and kind of melt back into your comfort zone. Nine times out of ten, when we travel, it’s for work and/or a brand partnership, so our days are usually pretty packed. For a while the plane rides, various time zones, and dinners with new friends felt normal to us, but after a few days of being home we are already wondering what we did without all these puppy cuddles, home cooked meals, and down time.

First few things we did the other day when we got home were unpack, throw everything in the laundry, pick up little Henry from our friend’s house, and indulge in a nice bath. Holy moly, that tub is something else. I think sometimes we struggle with finding balance. We’ll have a great week juggling work projects and “us” or “me” time, and then other weeks are full of get togethers, travel, deadlines, etc. The more we talk to friends, it seems like its a constant battle for everyone…those with kids, those without, those who work from home, and those who have a 9-5. Until we started traveling abroad more, we didn’t realize how that whole “live to work” vs “work to live” mentality is so true of Americans. We’re slowly trying to find a balance that works for us…even if that means forcing ourselves to walk away from the computer and play music, take a long bath, or watch a favorite show.

Something we’ve really been enjoying lately is meal planning. It makes our weeks so much smoother, and dinners a whole lot easier. Now, don’t get me wrong… getting the motivation to prep everything for the week is a whole other story, but once we do it we feel so much better! All the veggies are cut, everything is in containers, chicken is marinated, and so on. We’re really hoping to keep this up. We started it last year but weren’t too consistent, so now we just make it part of our Sunday routine along with an audiobook playing while we chop away. Multi-tasking at it’s finest! Haha And of course Henry is a part of it all, never missing any action in the kitchen. We haven’t finished The Handmaid’s Tale just yet. The last plane ride or so, we totally indulged in those eye masks and a snooze, but we have The Nix on our radar next. Have any of you read it yet?

As for the rest of the week, we’re looking forward to laying low and putting the finishing touches on our master bath over here. What about you guys?

    1. I LOVED the Nix – I had no idea what to expect when going into it, but totally fell in love with the story. Also, the audio performance was hilarious.

  1. Girl, you are speaking to my heart right now. This year is insane for us with traveling, work, and the side #hustle. We have five weddings to go to (2 in other countries!), and I’m just trying to stay sane, haha. That ever elusive balance. <3www.wonderlandsam.com

    1. Oh my gosh! You guys sound super busy, but it sounds like all fun stuff going on. Sometimes it’s just nice to hear we’re all trying to figure out how to balance everything together. 🙂 Happy weekend! xo
